There has to be some sort of extreme consequence for stealing the seal. If failing an exam is the consequence for simply walking on the wrong side of it, then stealing the darn thing has got to cause you to fail out of college altogether!!
Anyone know if O-Reg has begun yet? It probably won't give the incoming students and their parents a strong impression of the integrity of BG's students when they walk by an empty pedestal.

There ARE other parts to the Miami seal.... and ways to get outta it(the TriDelt sundial...though I wouldn't touch the turtles if I were you.) And it isn't JUST Freshman, it's anyone. 3 feet?! maybe they pryed it up and rooled it off, not like there are any hills....

My fellow grad student buddies and I jumped on the damn thing at Miami.... It was the BG side of my personality expressing itself and I did not fail any tests. Bando - its freshmen who fail. That is the real legend. Proof postive by my jumping on the seal.MiamiBando wrote:There ARE other parts to the Miami seal.... and ways to get outta it(the TriDelt sundial...though I wouldn't touch the turtles if I were you.) Okay - help me out here.... Reid Hall and Dorsey Hall. What is taking their place? And aren't they pretty small dorms built in the 1950's. I think I was in Reid once. Old style of dorm that probably needs to be replaced with newer suite-style rooms.MiamiBando wrote:I know a senior who passed out on it, and failed ALL of his exams... that is funny! Not for him, but in general.
I am gonna be a campus tour guide next year, so I know most of my legends... and the fact that we loose Reid Hall and the Door is angering...

Reid isn't too small, it's the one that used to be beside Old Miami Field, in fact right across the street. It has the door with the Bloody hand prints from the RA that got his head blown off. The are building the Richard T.Farmer Business school there, and Goggin is coming down. I think they should renovate Reid Hall, and turn it into the business school, and put an addition on it, there is MORE than enought room to do that....and we get to keep one of the older dorms(well over 60yrs old now)

This really sucks guys, but I have some advice for those of you who are looking for it: Look in dumpsters and in alleyways; this happened at our church many years back when someone took a cross that we use in the opening procession-and we found it in a dumpster a few days later. I really hope they find it soon.

I don't think Reid could easily be converted as you suggest. Too thin of a footprint and profile. You might be able to convert it to offices and thats about it. The real problem may be due to age and being able to retrofit the new amenities you want in a modern building such as A/C, telecommunications/data systems, and so on. I like Reid, but as long as the rest of East Quad stays, things will be fine. The new Business Building just needs to fit into the context of East Quad and not overpower it.MiamiBando wrote:Reid isn't too small, it's the one that used to be beside Old Miami Field, in fact right across the street. Goggin needs to come down once the new ice house is built. It will be pretty useless otherwise. And it isn't in the Miami Style.
I have a strong feeling it is either long gone as a sovunier or has being melted down for the metal and/or sold as scrap. I am not holding out hope it will return.golfertk14 wrote:This really sucks guys, but I have some advice for those of you who are looking for it: Look in dumpsters and in alleyways; this happened at our church many years back when someone took a cross that we use in the opening procession-and we found it in a dumpster a few days later. President Garlands plan calls for the demolition of East and North Quads, and the reduction of South Quad. They would build larger buildings with suite style rooms. I think that is horse whoey. KEEP THE DORMS! Goodness. Get rid of Culler Schideler, and Phillips Halls, none are "Miami Style." Heck, Yager Stadium isn't Miami. Garland is a fool, who refuses to listen to the students, yeah, he is GREAT with the Alumni, but he quickly will HAVE no alumni support at the rate he is alienating the student population at.....

I don't support the idea of getting rid of the older dorms and East Quad. North Quad isn't really a quad. My son stayed in Bishop during soccer camp last year..... pretty outdated. Luckily he and three of his teammates had the big room on the first floor with the bay window looking at Miletti.
I think it would be a mistake to get rid of North Quad, because you should want to have some student population living near the sports venues.
My understanding is the new dorms replacing Miami Manor (or as we called it "Little Saigon") are not filling up. Too costly, even for Miami. Have you heard the same?

They are actually pretty full, and they aren't dorms, they are Apartments, they BEDROOMS are the size of my dorm room, and they ALL have queen size beds! They cost like 3750 a semester-4000 p/s they haven't completely decided on the price. I almost went with one, but I lived on South Quad. Some of the campus "Improvements" i just laugh, shake my head, and then kick myself for.
Bishop is one of the trashier ones, I know Flower is used for the student athletes, as are most north quad dorms....
Martin does have some good food!

That pretty much sums it up. Check out the photos of the new "suite/apartment style" dorms...UK Peregrine wrote:Not that I'm to concerned with Miami's residential infrastructure, but to me it sounds more like, welcome to institutional bureaucracies and so-called administrative dictated progress.Tech83 wrote:Welcome to academia.

This is the website for a virtual tour of the units
http://www.hdg.muohio.edu/shmpshome/?showme=Videos.htm
I heard the cost to live there is something like $5,000 per student per semester but is now down to $3,725 per semester. It is my understanding there is not a rush to live in the units.
