I thought Beta 500 went away. The chapter did, maybe someone else picked it up. It was a great event.

Beta did disappear, I think in 2005.

Yes it was. First Rink's was where Big Lots is, then they moved to the (Kroger) Store. Then it became Harts, then Kroger.

I had a table of 8 and I spilled all their drinks on one person. Wow. I don't think I lasted very long there.

I remember picking my brother DEAN up at DINOs after his high school baseball games. Drinking age was 18 then. I remember shopping at JCPenny and the kids section was upstairs. I'd hide in the racks and freak my mom out.

I still remember back-to-school shopping at Ullmans.

The BEST bakery in the world was Peterson's. Best. Smiley. Face. Cookies. Ever.

Dan/Pete Peterson was my kindergarten phys ed teacher. I now drink with him. Wiered.

Chip from DQ still knows me. I remember when the juke box was still there... we'd all walk there after the Jr. High dances. good times. good times.

I lived on Reed street by the tracks before they blocked it off. A friend of mine lived in the trailer park accross from Off. Towers.

I worked for three years at the Tanning Center. It's still there. I was there when it sold ice cream.

I worked at Powel's Ice Cream when the mall opened.

I also remember East Merry Maddness and Manville Maddness. I think I went with my parents to pick up my older siblings.

I remember the OLD library and how I didn't like the new one when it was built. I still refer to it as the 'new' library.

Am I missing anything????
I believe that is where my parents lived when I was born. My mom tells me about going to the afternoon matinee for a quarter because it was air conditioned.

Yes, Beta and the Beta 500's absence from campus began around that time. I'm guesstimating, but I'm pretty sure Saxy is right. Coincidentally, the "Grand Prix of Bowling Green" go-kart race made its debut around this time as well.

When I was working in the Office of Campus Activities this past spring ('08), a friend of mine in Kappa Alpha mentioned that there were individuals or possibly even a few greek orgs looking to bring it back. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, there was a "beta 500-esque" event out on the north side of the cemetery this spring.

If I'm not mistaken, they did both the Grand Prix and KA Kart this year. One was north of the graveyard and the other was in the AA parking lot.

My saddest change was the loss of Cassidys. It was pure dance club that let freshmen (underage) in at all hours, all nights. We would go there and dance for four hours straight. It changed to a straight up bar and then became BW-3.

I also used to go to Myle's PASTA, which is where Ay Ziggy Zombas is (or was, is it still there). I loved their sauce.

Never knew this list existed... but I'll add more as I remember more.

The Putt Putt course was paved over for the Advanced Auto Parts.

There was a Rax on the South Side of BG that became the China.

Wasn't there an Appliance Center locally owned where the Arby's is today?

Then there was the bank name change of one of Toledo's finest banks that want from Toledo Trust, to Trust Corps, to Soceity Bank all within 2 years (at least it felt that way when I was 8 years old.)

For the record, the plane crashed the morning of the Beta 500 not during the event. There were a couple of Beta's cleaning up the area where they had the keg party the night before which was out by the Rugby fields...

....surprised nobody has mentioned Saturday afternoons watching Rugby with Chuck Tuna and StuFish.....

and ran over to the apartments when they saw the crash. I believe they actually rescued some people.

For you early 80's attendee's you might remember:
The DU Bike Race
The Mud Tug
The Basketball Marathon
Happy Hours Friday at 4:00 at samB's on Wooster
Manville Madness

Other than that, I was pretty much blinded by the strobe at Uptown which hopefully is still standing.
And my House has not lost their charter, nor have they had any different place than between Rogers and Anderson Arena!
There is no other way to finish a season other than yelling at the top of your lungs among BG's players holding the Peace Pipe aloft!
