Another way to give back!

Post by TG1996 »

Didn't know where to put this, but last week I visited with Mickey Cochrane and looked around the Athletic Archive room. One thing he mentioned is the need for mannequins. I don't think they need "full size" mannequins, but just some torsos to display various uniforms, letter jackets, etc.

They work with some kind of budget, but primarily go off donations. If anyone has any connections to get some mannequin bodies for the athletic archives, I'm sure Mickey would be thrilled to hear about it. They may not have room for them now, but the future sounds very bright for the archive collection!

Nah, What we need is to have alumni (even better former players) donate their own bodies to be plasticized. Then we can use real alumni to display the jackets and jersey.

I don't want to sound arrogant or negative, but I have always felt that manneguins look like crap in a "museum" setting. Having been involved with some smaller museum and "Hall of Fames", there are other methods out there to accomplish what Coach C wants to do. I would rather see the jerseys/jackets/sweaters presented on a clear plastic form that allows the item to be displayed without the visual distraction of a lifeless mannequin.

A friend of mine manages the frame shop at Ben Franklin in BG and has come up with a method to "hang" these types of items in a frame that looks really nice.

Just my opinion.

I don't think Mickey meant "mannequins" in the full on "arms and head and creepy stuff you see at the mall", but the torso parts, or more like a dress model that tailors use so some of the clothing items can be shown off with a sort of 3D look to them. I think some of the items would be displayed very nicely framed and hung higher on the wall, but some thicker items need a "body" to go on.

Unfortnately, it seems the University hasn't found it fit to support this endeavor with the proper space and so on. I really would like to see the archive and see if there is some type of professioanl support I could donate.

Schedule a trip to BG, let me know when you're going to be in town, I'll take an afternoon off and we'll go! Seriously... let's make something happen with this archives!

I'm having lunch with Greg Christopher tomorrow, it's definitely going to be one of the topics of conversation. It can't stay in a broom closet in Memorial Hall forever... and it needs to be indexed and documented before all the info goes away with Mickey...

Yeah, that's also something that has kind of has Mickey torn. The plan is to devote a space in a renovated AA or new convocation center, but we all know how those plans are going.... :( He has even had to pull stuff in from the lobby of AA/Memorial Hall because of light damage, and is somewhat concerned about the light inside the current "closet" and its effect on some of the pieces in the collection.

Fortunately, it also sounds like some of the photographs and possibly other items will be displayed in the Sebo Center when it opens.

But I second what G says, to you or to anybody, if you walk by and Mickey's in there, take a minute to look around, or if you really desire, dig up his phone number (on BGSUfalcons.com) and see if he can meet up with you.
