New York, NY -- Bowling Green State University is one of forty schools that received a request for documents in a Student Loan investigation.

New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is looking at whether top college athletic departments steered athletes and other students to education lenders in exchange for kickbacks. The investigation involves whether athletic departments agreed to promote the University Financial Services in exchange for kickbacks.

A gigantic non-story.

Get past the screaming headline and you find bubkis. The Blade story summed up BG's "involvement" in this "scandal" quite nicely.

I agree with Joe. This is a non-story. Some underling made a deal they shouldn't have. The University received some money ($7,500?). Within a few months, the deal was cancelled and the money returned. It's not like we we shaving points or anything.

I remember reading a story in the Indianapolis Star a month or so ago that named Indiana University and the University of Texas, among others involved in this as well. Neither of those schools was on this list. BG was not mentioned in Star's story.

I'm gonna try to keep all discussion of this in one place. Let's move it to Admin/classes/memories...

What I noticed about the story was how the bland took a pot shot at Paul Krebs. Of all the employee changes they singled out just one with absolutely no proof to back up their claim. But it is what I have come to expect from almost anything related to that hell hole to the north of Bowling Green.

The Blade also had it listed as the top story on the website last evening. The caption was "breaking News". Come on.

In the actual newspaper, it is on the front page, top right column. Right next to a big picture of the bridge collapse. No idea why they think it warrnats anywhere near that much attention.

Because they don't want to deal with the complaints from UT people that the Blade has a bias towards BG.

And doesn't the mere use of the word "scandal" infer a certan level of guilt? Has there even been a determination made that something illegal took place?

And if you believe that how do you account for the story of the two BGSU students cited for crossing the railroad tracks after midnight getting buried on page two? If that had been a UT football player threatening a deputy with a gun it would be all over the front page.

Many might say that it implies a certain level of guilt.

I certainly hope that was sarcasm, because crossing the railroad tracks is like getting a speeding ticket, but threatening a deputy with a gun is a serious offense. PLEASE tell me that was sarcasm.

I was thinking the same thing. This thing - sarcasm flying over people's heads - seems to be happening quite a bit lately. I do not mean that to be a slight against you, footballguy51 (because a lot more people than you have fallen victim to this of late), but it does seem to be a very prevalent trend around here recently. We're all smart people around here, so I would guess that this is a larger trend. I know I certainly have a hard time discerning sarcastic comments on message boards like this, unless it is overtly obvious due to either extreme irony or ridiculousness ( <-- my favorite word. Ever.).
