Howard's?? Why the heck would he want to run a bar?

This is going to be a critical time for Falcon Athletics... Dr. Ribeau was a BIG supporter and believer in intercollegiate athletics... if the next prez is NOT... let's just say the numbers aren't pretty and if someone takes a look strictly at numbers, it could get ugly.

Good luck Dr. Ribeau. You've done GREAT things at BGSU! Now how about a big donation to the athletic department on your way out??

This guy has done an incredible amount of work, and understands how athletics can be used to market and increase the awareness of a university. They have also improved their athletic facilities immensley in a very short time.

Ribeau was here since 1995, and waited until it was the last thing on the plate to work on athletics. There were sound political reasons to that, I'm not knocking it. But I'm not as prone to say he was gods gift to BGSU athletics. He was good, yes, great no, and as has been noted, the core numbers are plain "fugly." That said, and as has been noted by implication, things could have been far from generally benign the last 13 years.

Bottom line, his legacy will be academics, and not athletics.

A great deal that was done, which was on his watch, if not direct command, was the administrative structure around athletics. That has left BGSU athletics in a position to interface much better with a new president, than say, for example, another school within a short drive of BG.

I think these are interesting times for BGSU, athletically and otherwise. With issues of state funding, local administrative sovereignty, and down to topics related to athletics, we need a more public figure I think. A major PR warrior. Ribeau just hasn't struck me as being that.

I hope as the debate and talk of "who comes next" evolves, we don't get too caught-up in being defensive of Ribeau every single time a non-glowing impression of him is expressed, or a desire to improve on his work is voiced.

That said, I'll echo the general feelings, and say he was a fine president, and will rate as pivotal in the University's history, if they ever get around to writing another edition. Were it not for his administration, BGSU would be in a very dire position right now. When I say that I hope we get somebody better, its not a knock, as much as a personal expression of how much higher my expectations are. BGSU should be seen as a plumb job right here and now. At least they bought a swanky new house for the next person.

Seems I moved back to town at the right time, should be fun to watch things develop.

No clue about an intern President. Candidates for interim president might be folks like Whipple, Folkins, Dobb, Bulmahn, or Baugher. I'm not sure they'd bring in someone from the outside.

Anyways, good memory of Sid Rib, at Campus Fest my senior year he walked by the BG24 Table and I was there and he said "You do a great job on Sports. Keep it up." He truly cared about the University and the Students.

You're kidding, right? Ribeau's annual salary here was $286,443. University presidents make a lot of dough. But Howard had to have made a great offer to him. It seems to me that that school is a good fit for him, though. Thanks for all you've done, Dr. Ribeau!
