No more "Burnt" Orange???

Wasn't sure which forum to post this on, so I went with this one! Hope all alums read this and post their feelings!
I stopped into SBX this afternoon and found out that they (SBX) are now required to order all items in a new orange hue (for all items with the "official" BG logo/trademark, etc...). This is not the "burnt orange" that we usually see. It is a brighter orange. When I compared two shirts, one with the orange that I'm used to seeing and one with the "new" hue, there was a distinct difference. The "new" orange looked like it was half way between "burnt orange" and Tennessee Orange. Much "brighter" and a little more "neon-y" (if that is a word...).
I do not understand why we would need to change this. There is NOTHING wrong with the color/hue that we had! I have always liked the darker orange (burnt orange).

(*trying VERY hard to filter my real thoughts on this.*)
So, Falcon Fans....Your thoughts?

More changing things that don't need to be changed... Ridiculous.
What is wrong with the school colors, or rather, the specific shade of our colors? I love the darker orange. Like you FF, I have no idea why ANYONE felt the need to change this.
Along the same lines: I was only a freshman, but I hated it when they changed the logo. I loved the LT logo - simple and effective.
Too much change in too small a time period.
Other thing to think about:
So, considering we just built the new Stroh Center and it's already painted with the old shade/hue and such, what are they going to do? Waste money and repaint?

I'm just guessing here, but I would imagine that everything new that goes up will have the new "brighter" orange.
....or maybe that's just the merchandising stuff....

My marketing brain is screaming bloody murder.
I am wondering who made and APPROVED this decision. Was this a financial move because burnt orange is more expensive? Or does this orange easier to match in the marketplace (eg your average golf bag)? I see this as a cop out. Was this simply aesthetic change because the new orange would look better in certain media?
Whatever the reason, it's a quiet transition which means its more aesthetic driven by a choice few than it is a globally accepted need.
In other words, changing the hew is utter bullshit.
Fortunately, when the offending dolts move on from BG, correcting this mistake would be relatively easy although not entirely inexpensive.

I did some digging. I should have performed some background before responding. I had a funny feeling, but decided to believe that this was a recent development.
It's not.
I've had the "official" orange color RGB formula for some time now. I would put it about four years at least. I decided to look at what codes they have on the Marketing and Communications site on bgsu.edu. They have the colors for orange and brown and the RGB formulas for each.
The official colors currently posted on the website match what I have on my computer. Dummy me for thinking this was a recent development. I often thought the orange has been too bright for some time. Well, it is, but it took this long to figure it out.
I recall my above statement. It's far too late in the game to get mad about it now. Telling the SBX not to sell the "old orange" is simple brand management. I can't be upset about that. Although I don't like the brighter color, I applaud the management of the BGSU brand.
So, them's the facts, ma'am.

This topic was brought up in the football forum where I responded with my extreme approval (*shocking, I know*). I will respectfully disagree with your comment about brand management. It is total BULLSH!T that BG changed the hue of marketing items. You DO NOT change a school's colors for marketing purposes. What kind of response do you think you'd get from the Buckeye faithful if OSU did that? And yes, I'm sure that you see plenty of schmuckeye crap with a different hue of red, but I'm also sure that most of them are not "officially" licensed merchandise either. Some probably think I'm over reacting, but I REALLY don't like the "new" neony orange stuff. It's NOT Falcon Orange. It's too bright and I'm sure I'm not the only one that doesn't like it. [/end rant]

Actually, I agree that the "new" orange isn't all that new, as I've seen it for several years now...just watch at a tailgate this year and see how MANY shades of orange you see.
MY big bitch, and I mentioned it on another post, though it might not have gone thru for some reason is the increased use of BLACK ...i.e. in coaches' gear and even some of the unis, practice or otherwise. (see the women's volleyball outfits).
As to changing school colors and some saying you NEVER do this... have you forgotten WMU's switchover from BROWN and Gold (similar to Wyoming), to the now Black and Gold? Hard to imagine Bronco fans were too thrilled with that either. And at least we haven't changed our NAME from Redskin to Redhawk, or Hurons to Eagles etc.
Can we blame NIKE and Oregon for what is happening?

As far as the orange goes, I posted this on twitter, so I'll post what I've been told as far as it goes:
I don't know how, why, or when it happened, but the shade of orange for athletics (and the corresponding RGB formula) was different from the shade of orange for the University. As well, the shades of brown were different. The University asked the athletics department to change the orange to match the University shade and the University, in turn, agreed to change to the athletics shade of brown.
As for whether or not the orange and brown have changed over the years, I could not tell you as I haven't been at BGSU long enough to know. However, in my four years, changing the orange to the University RGB color is the only time it has been changed since I've been here.

I just want the sports seasons to start again, so things like logos, shades of colors, and jersey styles are not the main talking points

OK, I'm going to rant a little AGAIN! ....Move along if you don't want to hear it.
Yesterday, I stopped by the season ticket holder event to grab my tix. Couldn't stay for the food, etc. as we had somewhere else to be. Looked in the envelope that I was given. Nice to get a freebie,
......BUT DOES IT HAVE TO BE FLUORESCENT NEON ORANGE WITH BLACK PRINT????? It was a string bag/back pack thing and it's SOOOO FREAKING BRIGHT!! Like I said, it's nice to get a freebie, but I still find it really, REALLY irritating that someone thinks this orange is ok.
IT'S NOT. PERIOD.
[/END RANT]

I thought exactly the same thing and figured the "brown" ink was too expensive for the silk screen.

I really wonder who makes those decisions............but I do know who is in charge of the athletic department, which makes HIM responsible!

Sorry Factman, but Mitt Romney IS NOT in charge of the Athletic Department.
