Since school just started and I am finding myself missing classes, I thought I'd bring up...

What was/is your favorite class at BGSU?

Mine was Cultural Anthropology with Dan Shoope. I took it during the summer of 02. He was such a cool guy and the class was SO much fun. I recommend him as a professor and that class...you'll get a lot out of the class discussions. I learned a lot about many different things that summer...and I got an A!!!

I've got two that stand out as being outstanding. One was a fiction workshop my senior year with Wendell Mayo as the prof. The class was made up of 10-12 guys, and we got out of hand on a regular basis. There was a lot of good writing going on in there, and I'm pleased to have been a part of it.

The other was an intro creative writing class with Tony Doerr, probably in the spring of '98. Tony is a hell of a writer (see his short story collection, The Shell Collector, and his forthcoming novel About Grace), and a great teacher as well. I learned a lot in that class, and had fun doing it.

I haven't graduated yet but I can say any classes I have with Gene Poor are the best of the best. He is a VCT professor and just amazing. You leave his lectures feeling like you can take over the world.

Another one of my favorites was the Intro to Ethnic Studies with Jack Taylor. For a class that I didn't do so well in grade wise, I learned A LOT in there and his teaching style was great! Going to that class was always fun for me.

Co-ed volleyball phys. ed classes ... a lot of the guys were in "guys only" basketball classes, acting like it was a tryout for the NBA. They were beating themselves senseless; meanwhile, I was chatting up the ladies.

My favorite class was Constitutional Law with Dr. Ludd. You know a class is great when you want to be prepared for it. Now, the class was very discussion focused at time, and Dr. Ludd seemed to know if you weren't ready to roll. Case law is not a fun ready, but Dr. Ludd created an energy for learning. Very unique.

Did you know Dr. Ludd played on Syracuse's basketball team in 1966 with Dave Bing and Jim Boeheim?? Kind of cool...

Did a story on Bing and Russell and how the Knicks and Pistons changed their lives by not picking the regional guy.

But no mention of Ludd in the story ... a terrible omission on my part.

If we're going to include P.E. classes in this, then I should also mention flag football, which I took Spring '98. That class was so much fun. Leon Weathersby from the football team was in that class--nice guy. Needless to say, he made the rest of us look silly.

One of my favorites was Business Law with Brent Nicholson. His tests were a B**ch (Centent lifted from the CPA exams), but he was a solid prof!

Not the greatest class but the best teacher I've had so far is Kenneth Snead who teaches accounting.

Two classes that stand out in my mind were both English classes. I really enjoyed Hawthorne/Melville with Dr. Bashore. And I loved Modern Poetry with Dr. McCord. I forgot about Dr. Shook! He was one of my exercise phys. classes and he was SO awesome! I will never forget the first day of class he came in dressed like a race car driver. He acted like a total asshole and strutted around the room. After about 10 minutes when we were all annoyed he took off his costume and became the real Dr. Shook. He introduced himself properly and then said, "now go home and think about why you shouldn't always judge people on the first impression." It was a GREAT lesson...I miss those classes. I learned so much about how to relate to other people.

I've been outta school for almost 15 years so I cannot remember any prof names except Bruce Klopfenstein in the RTVF school.

I really enjoyed Beerology 101, 201, 301, 401 and the graduate course!
