Who was/is all of your favorite instructors? My favorite has to be Dr. Fred Zackel of the English program. He is one of, if not the best teacher I've ever had at any level.

This goes along with something I meant to post Saturday...
My favorite I think would be Charlie Earl, who I don't think was "full time", but he taught a number of classes in TCOM. I had John Dowell for English 112, and he was a little odd, but pretty cool. Stu Givens has already gotten his props here, but he was a great teacher, and is probably due to have a building or part of a building named after him very soon.

The name that popped into my head this weekend (after seeing a jazz musician that was a dead ringer) was R.K. Tucker, IPCO prof. His tests were a bitch, but looking back, his lectures were really pretty enjoyable.

As far as the opposite end of the spectrum, I remember having an ethnic studies teacher that was HORRIBLE. He was there more to push an agenda than teach, and I was so glad the day that class ended.

I really liked Dr. Peter Shields in the TCOM department. He always made a boring subject matter (TCOM law) very interesting.

I also liked Julie Haught in the English department. I took three or four English classes from her. She was very thought-provoking and enjoyable.

Worst instructor? Don't get me started...

Gene Poor in the VCT department has to be my favorite. By the time you leave his class, you want to take over the world. He actually built Easy Street in BG (it was called the Parrot and the Peacock or something like that back then though) and then moved on to start LifeFormations which is a nationally known animatronic company who's offices are back in that business park behind Meijer. He knows a lot about our field but teaches the introductory classes 95% of the time.

I don't think he can really teach you about VCT but he motivates you instantly. It's almost like the school set it up for him to motivate you to take over the world and then all the other VCT classes show you how...

Easystreet Cafe? By "built" to you mean designed the interior, If my memory serves most of those main street buildings were built early 1900's to the 50's at latest. he must be one old teacher. Of course that goes back to an early conversation with DD, in which we decided that once you become an academic, retirement is but a dream.

I had several great teachers. However it was Paul Moore in the Biology department that helped develop my interests in sensory neuroscience directed me to my current academic adventure. No real problems with my ethnic studies teacher, he was british, adn drunk/hungover for most of my classes.

I like Zackel, he is pretty interesting to listen to. I had him last semester for Eng 200.......California Lit. When did you have him?

Dr. Shook, one of my exercise phys. profs and Dan, I so can not remember his last name, who taught my Cultural Anthropolgy class. So Great!

What about profs you hated? Mine has to be Amy Rybek, my second semester English prof. She liked to grade upon my opinions. She was awful.

My favorite was Jim Foust, who taught some of the advanced broadcast journalism courses. Susan Brown (sociology) was a good one, as was the guy (whose name I forget) who taught my HIST 206 class in '02.

For graduate classes, Mark Earley was fantastic in EDFI 641 and anything taught by Mike Dannells in CSP/HiED.

I have Zackel right now for Cal. Lit. It's just entertaining to sit back and watch him.

Drawing a blank here (it was in 1975). Business Law prof that was previously on the staff for the Dr. Sam Sheppard trial. He didn't teach much from the book, but he sure had interesting stories.

I'm kinda at a tie between Dr. Poor, like Metzger said, and Jeff Hall for VCT Photography, great guy and taught me a lot about photo. Either way, VCT program has some great teachers.

I really liked Jan Alberghene, Bob Bashore and Paul Parnell in the English dept. I tried to sneak one of my somewhat sloppy but oh so cutesy papers that other profs fawned over by Parnell and he just about took my head off. He actually read it in class complete with some "who is this jackass" styled commentary before handing it back to me. I'm grateful to him for helping me hone my mental approach to things.

Lots of good ones ...

Mary Jo Kane in the sports management department, Doc Laak, Dennis Hale in journalism fpr starter...

Steve Ludd in Poli Sci. He was awesome!!!

George Bullerjahn--Microbial Physiology
Neocles Leonis--Biochemistry
Phil Dickinson--English Lit.--some Brit who I swore was always still hammered from the night before, but still a great professor


Worst Profs:
Bill Scovell--Biochemistry--was a prick and a bad teacher--gave me my only "C" in college
