Not sure if anyone caught this in Tuesday's Blade:

For the past three years, Mayor Quinn has been coming to every summer orientation session and introducing himself to the crowd. Turns out a Blade reporter was attending with her student and thought it might make a neat piece.

Dan - is he still leading a group of Focus on Campus Life?
I remember a few years ago, it seemed like he was leading a group every day.
I give the mayor a big round of applause for all he does for the university. I have asked him to come over for Presidents' Day and meet and greet parents and he is there every Presidents' Day.
Even though he is a Rep...Repu...Republic....Republican, I have to admit I voted for him last time out. And I would do so again if he were to run for re-election (but he is not).

Boy I wish he still did some of the small-group interactions with family members, but as far as I am aware, his involvement has been limited to lunch this summer.
He's there like clockwork each and every day of the program for an hour or so during lunch. Mayor Quinn works his way through the crowd (seen in the Blade photo) and introduces himself to all of the participants -- students and families. On most days, that's somewhere around 650 people. Multiply that by the 16 summer sessions and you could fill Anderson Arena twice and then some.
He learns names and remembers people from day to day -- I think his involvement is genuine and it's a neat thing that he's so committed.

HE'S NOT RUNNING AGAIN???
That does not make me happy... He taught two of my history classes in high school. Very intelligent man. Went to my church. He's not your typical polititian as he's genuine.
Maybe I could go TP his house and make him run!
