I have a few comments and then a few questions concerning the BGSU master plan. Hopefully someone here can help me out.
First off, as far as comments go, I must say after reviewing some of the renderings and reading the articles, I really like what I am seeing from this plan. There were a few things I didn’t like the idea of, but from what I can tell from reviewing the plan, many of the things I really liked seeing that this plan calls for is: a new convocation center, increased green spaces and adding pedestrian malls, more landscaping and trees, the removal of interior campus parking and into exterior parking lots, remodeling older buildings and the construction of new buildings, new entrances gateways and roadways, etc. In all, these plans show a major overhaul of the campus and focuses in many areas of need, and I was excited to see these planned proposals.
Now my question is this, and maybe I should know something about this already, but in a nutshell, can anyone explain to me if and/or when the proposed improvements of the master plan are supposed to get started or get underway? Is there a set date, or a set year, in which this all is supposed to unfold and get rolling? Any information that can shed some light on this for me would be much appreciated.

It has already started to roll out.
The new fine arts facility between the School of Art and the College of Musical Arts - plans are being drawn up and reworked. The problem with the current design is the Theatre Department feels they need more space (which would take the facility over to where Saddlemire is currently located). Do we tear down Saddlemire or let it stay? That is being debated.
The University has been purchasing properties on the south side of Wooster St. for the past few years (and this will continue).
The Master Plan is in action now. It's just not an overnight realization.

I didn't see much on the new Biology Building in the master plan, but nonetheless its still nice to see its listed as part of the improvement. The current Life Sciences building is antiquated and sorely needs to be replaced. From all of the accounts that I'm privy to, which isn't many anymore, it sounds like a new Biology Building could be a ways off. Still the overall scope and breadth of the master plan is quite impressive. Here's to hoping a good portion of it comes to fruition.

Thanks for the info. So from what I've read above, is the next step in this mater plan process to build the fine arts facility then? If so, any idea when the the target date is to start construction?
Honestly, I'm glad something is going to be built in that field where this facility is supposed to be constructed. I'm all for more green spaces and trees on our campus, but that area there just seemed "lost" on campus. I always wondered why they didn't put East Hall in that spot and why they placed East Hall where they did, but I guess this answers why.

I know that it goes without saying, but Master Plans are not an exact description of what will happen.Tricky_Falcon wrote:I was browsing through the Master Plan and I really liked what I saw. Any new information on the progress of the plan?
With that said, Saddlemire is still scheduled to be demolished in June (possibly July) with those offices moving to Conklin North. Also, many athletic facilities are scheduled to be completed this Summer. You can see my post in the Free-For-All from a few weeks ago for info about that.

I saw a comment last week where it may not be torn down until after fall semester starts because of the relocation of some areas. I'm thinking the administrative offices are easy to move, but where are they going to put the various studios and labs on the 1st and 2nd floor of the building?BGDrew wrote:With that said, Saddlemire is still scheduled to be demolished in June (possibly July) with those offices moving to Conklin North.

Essentially the Planning and Construction office has no clue what they're going to do.transfer2BGSU wrote:I saw a comment last week where it may not be torn down until after fall semester starts because of the relocation of some areas. I REALLY like the ideas they have on 'paper' there. I can't ait to come back here as an alum and see this great new finished product. The thing about this plan that excites me the most is the zoning ideas. Breaking the campus down into specific areas of study will make life fr incoming students much easier when it comes time to figuring out the campus. Student body life as a whole will be easier and more social within our own studies it seems. My only regret about it is that I'm in school now and not 15 to 20 years from now. I guess there's gonna be little Nizs some day to fulfill that dream for me.
One more thing, if the current FMB rehearsal fields are to become "BGX", then where exactly do our rehearsals get allocated to?
