I'm experimenting to see if it can be done tastefully and within the design of the site. So far, I think it looks pretty good.
Still trying to find out why the heck it's only hurricane relief PSA's right now though. I may move it to the bottom of the page if it's too annoying at the top. Your feedback is welcomed.
Google sends ads that are "themed" to the content of the page, so hopefully we'll eventually end up with some ads that might even be intriguing.
This will help cover some costs of running the site (I hope).

Now I feel stupid for spending the last 20 minutes trying to figure out how to get rid of that ad.

Next he's going to be forcing classical music down our throats and reading "Prairie Home Companion" to us. Great.

Yep, that's where I ended up. I'm a recent Firefox convert and loving the hell out of it.

Of course, if you happen to find any of the links interesting, I'd welcome you to click on them. I've already seen some things that look pretty pertinent and they'll only get better as the ads are clicked.
I think the bottom of the page is where they'll stay for now.
Thanks everyone.

I'm looking forward to adding the Ziggy Marley ring tone to my phone.

Now that they're at the bottom, I'm actually really enjoying these Google ads. I haven't clicked on any, and probably never will, but it's fun to see what they come up with.

They are supposed to "evolve" as Google learns more about the content of this site and then the click habits of the visitors. *shrug* We'll see how that goes.
Plus, there is the opportunity for companies or indiviuals to purchase space by clicking on the link on the lower right side of the box, so if say.... the University Marketing Department wanted to reach a very target audience, they could do so directly.

Is there a way to get them to open as new tabs? Like the idea. Very much enjoyed the beer ads that Hammb inspired.

If you're in Firefox, click on a link with your scroll button and the link will open in a new tab.

IE7 Beta also has that feature.
