Remembering my dad again...

Post by ZiggyZoomba »

My dad died 5 years ago today. This site is basically here because of him. I encourage you to read what I wrote about this site's inspiration after "the shutdown."

http://www.ay-ziggy-zoomba.com/articles ... why_1.html

He's always here with me... and probably reads every post. :-)

Thoughts and prayers are also with Rightupinthere who lost HIS dad to cancer 5 years ago today as well...

Everyone who still has a dad, give them a call, give them a hug, tell them that you love them.

Five years.

Five years of regret.

I echo what Grant said. Don't take dad for granted.

Oh, and Grant, I'm not busting open that bottle of Scotch without you. We'll get together. This weekend turned bad (finals next week).

Indeed. Lost my mother to cancer almost 30 years ago and my father is in the homestretch right now. Making daily phone calls hardly seems enough.

I am so sorry for both you and RUIT, and glad I haven't had to deal with that. My roommate/ best friend from college just lost her dad to liver cancer a month ago and my heart breaks for her, as it does for y'all as well.

And everyone that has a Mom should do the same thing!! Both of my parents are gone (Dad nearly 13 years ago, a week after my daughter was born, and Mom 8 years ago March, the day of the seniors last home regular season hockey game, only one I ever missed). I remember dearly how precious the time is when they are older. You will never regret the time you spend with your parents once they are gone. Every moment will be a memory, something to cling to forever. Grant, my thoughts are with you.

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Grant...I remember your dad and some of the discussion of his illness from that old MAC board that was on.....Border Wars (or was it the old version of Rivals?) I liked your dad's internet persona.... he was always positive, respectful and considerate. I'm sure it was reflective of who he was as a person in general.

Your post did bring something to mind for me though....I had a really chaotic life from 1998-2001....as a result, I didn't have a sense of permanence in my life. Over the past year we moved into the house we've always wanted, the business is looking pretty good again, Laurel is a great kid....I finally have a sense of permanence!! Then I read your post and I'm reminded that it's all temporary after all.

Thanks a lot....... ;-)

Yep, take NOTHING for granted! That's a good thing... not a bad thing. It IS all fleeting, but it means the shi+ passes by quickly too.

One thing I've tried to learn since dad's been gone is to be thankful and appreciative for EVERYTHING... good and bad. It's all life experience and it all adds up to who we ultimately ARE.

I know you're just being a smart-ass... but it is good to hear things are rolling along nicely for you guys. :-) Maybe the lack of permanence will be in the fact that things will just keep getting better?? :-)

It's half-full....

My father would have been 68 this coming Saturday (May 6). Hard to believe it's been almost 19 years since he passed.
