Can the display of signatures be disabled?

I've looked in the Help and haven't found it: Can viewing signatures be turned off? I'm not asking about my own signature, I'm asking about other folks' signatures when I read posts. All those photos and graphics are real nice, but I don't need to see 'em.

The forum softwware wouldn't happen to be open source, would it? If so, the suggestion sounds like it would be easy enough to add.
