AZZ.Com Vs. BGSUFALCONS.COM

Post by Anonymous »

Grant,

Anyway to find out which website gets the most hits per day. I would really be interested in this. I only go to bgsufalcons.com to read the recaps of the womens games and look at the stats. If you had a recap of the games on here, stats, cocahes notes and comments, etc. then there would be no reason for me to go to their website.

Also is BGSUFALCONS.COM in support of this website. I heard a few people mention at the basketball game yesterday that they read the articles on here everyday and that they do not even go to the other site. Was wondering if you heard any feedback of whether the university is supportive of this site. I have heard this site mentioned on Fox Sports News and also on 1470 the Ticket, but never hear anything about the other site.

I've made a conscious effort NOT to duplicate the content on bgsufalcons.com. The official site is there for a reason and does a good job of getting the official news, facts, scores, etc. out there (although I really wish they'd have an rss feed available...).

I like to consider this site to be a compliment to, rather than be in competition with bgsufalcons.com. I am curious as to the amount of traffic they get compared to this site... but I've never been curious enough to ask. I have my numbers posted in this forum if you're interested in checking them out. And please, feel free to email the athletic department and see if you get an answer back on their site traffic. Like I said, I'd like to know too!

As for whether the official site "supports" this site... that's kind of a loaded question. When this site started to catch on a few years ago, I did ask for a link from the official site to ay-ziggy-zoomba.com and didn't get one. However, that being said, I have a great relationship with the BGSU athletic department, the sports information office, the coaching staffs and just about everyone at the university! I've always been able to get the information I need from the university and they generally go out of their way to help me out should a need arise.

It's easy to understand why a site like this wouldn't get the "official" nod from the university and the athletic department. You don't really want to host a forum where coach bashing, second guessing, and rumors and speculation run rampant. Rest assured though, this site has the eyes of the athletic department on it. They want to know what people think and take the comments of this website's membership seriously.

I hope that has answered some of your questions. I like the symbiosis this site has with www.bgsufalcons.com We each have our niche in cyberspace and we both have the positive publicity and perpetuation of BGSU athletics as our primary goal!!

Grant:

Good approah and spot-on assessment. It also makes sense for the university not to "sanction" this site in any official way. Just complicates things.

On the other hand, a story in the Alumni magazine about Falcon fans on the Web wouldn't be too far out of line ... :D

Thanks Grant,

I contacted the other site about how many people visit their site a day, ie hits, but have not heard back anything yet. If I do, I will let you know.
