Interesting indeed. I believe Buffalo could be a winner under the right leadership.

The most interesting part of the article is that Solich has left Ohio for Miami. I would have figured that would have received more press.

I saw that too and thought the same thing......maybe if Solich actually went to Oxford and had a few drinks, then it would have gotten more press.

Maybe Solich was so drunk that he thought he had taken the Miami job after Hoeppner left. The poor bastard has finally sobered up enough to realize he's in Athens....

Another Black Head Coach...

Good for the numbers...We need more black head coaches in college football.

Bad if he is given the job and is not qualified. Thats not a good thing no matter what race. The only thing I am questioning his qualifications on is the fact that he went from QB coach to HC. Another coach did that from Notre Dame to some make school.....

I am also bringing this up because when kansas state named their coach there was alot of question like why this guy he is not ready.

Unqualified black coaches won't help anything.

Qualified black coaches will. Why not dive into the NFL and start picking off the veteran defensive coordinators and see how they do?

In the case of Buffalo...it's Buffalo, they're lucky to find anyone willing to take that job. It's like Prince said..."black, white, puerto rican, everybody's just a freakin'"

Not sure why race matters at all in this discussion anyway...but then again I'm a white guy and race has only been used against me when picking sides for basketball.

Seriously I wish him the best of luck at Buff, but in reality they and Temple should be put down so they could at least be competitive. i dont see either program doing much in the next ten years.

I believe the QB coach from Green Bay got a head coaching job in the NFL and has done OK ...

FWIW, Gill was a finalist when Solich got fired.

I think that interview was more of a courtesy. When the Nebraska AD made the move, he said he wanted to change the direction and offensive philisophy of the program, so promoting the existing QB coach would have been a tough sell to the fan base. Bill Callahan kept him on for a year as WR coach before he left for Green Bay.

Word has it he's bringing in former Toledo and Nebraska LB's coach Jimmy Williams in as DC. I thought Solich had scooped up all the ex-Nebraska people with his staff.

Every discussion about coaches being hired into the NCAa ends up stating the number of black coaches in the NCAA.

And what is proper balance? That was my point.

Unqualified black head coaches being hired will actually hurt the quest for proper balance.

Both of these guys may be qualified. I had ehard he first guy was a bit early for the big time and I was surprised the second guy jumped from QB coach to head coach. But he seems qualified.

Anyone that is a coordinator in the NFL and is worth his salt is looking to become a head coach in the NFL, not go back to college, and especially not to a program like Buffalo. And speaking of African-American coaches the top 3 candidates for NFL coach of the year were all coordinators in the NFL that were promoted--Tony Dungy, Marvin Lewis, Lovie Smith.
