Good point. Except for BG, I hope that no MAC team wins a bowl game ever again. You know, since the MAC is considered a minor conference anyway.orangeandbrown wrote:And we can win all the bowl games we want, we're still going to be considered a minor conference. So, Go UTEP!

Well, now that UT is winning things should really turn around. Look out BCS.BGSUfalcons wrote:Good point. Except for BG, I hope that no MAC team wins a bowl game ever again. 37 - 13.
Put this in the books.
With an 8-1 record against CUSA, it is possible that the MAC may take some of CUSA's bowl bids. THAT would turn into more cash and exposure for the MAC. I don't give a rats pucker about the BCS.

Beating C-USA or anyone else doesn't have a rat's pucker to do with getting bowl bids. CUSA buys their way into those bowl games, that's how they got them in the first place. The bowl system is not a competition based system, never was, and never will be.Rightupinthere wrote:37 - 13.

UT played a great game tonight, and they have a very good team, and you certainly have to respect how they came on this year.

Sorry.Ineedbotox wrote:Yes, I saw the thread where most of you are pro-MAC & are rooting for Toledo. Usually, I would be pro-MAC as well. But as for me & this game, UTEP all the way. Mostly because of all the weasly UT fans who have come around here talking smack all season long. They are, in my opinion, by far the worst opposing team's fans we have had all year.
True, Toledo is our rival. But never have I seen a bunch of sorrier posters than Toledo's. And they keep coming back like a bad rash. So hopefully, when they get their butt kicked tonight, we will be rid of the stench once & for all.
Go Miners!!!

We're thinking alike in a manner of speaking; however, you just don't believe that performance on the field has anything to do with marketing a product. I do. That's from where our disagreement stems. From here, we'll just agree to disagree.orangeandbrown wrote: Beating C-USA or anyone else doesn't have a rat's pucker to do with getting bowl bids.

The C-USA teams guarantee more ticket sales than we could ever hope to, for that reason I do not expect things to change.Rightupinthere wrote: We're thinking alike in a manner of speaking; however, you just don't believe that performance on the field has anything to do with marketing a product. That said, my god did UTEP look like hell last night. This was the first I've seen them, and the heralded little Palmer boy, but they didn't look very impressive at all. Maybe he was having an off night, but it looked to me like his brother's got more talent in his big toe than Jarod could ever hope for.

How was the attendance at the game. The box score lists 35K, but when I had it on there seemed to be more empty seats than during last years monsoon. Maybe it was just being late in the 3rd and all the locals had left. It seems hard to me that you can make a strong argument for c-usa putting lots of fans in the seats when there didn't seem to be many last night.

The attendance looked pretty good early in the game.PGY Tiercel wrote:How was the attendance at the game. Even still it has nothing to do with fans in seats. It has everything to do with C-USA guaranteeing that X tickets are purchased. Whether they get used or not is irrelevant, the money goes to the bowl. I seem to recall reading in year's past that the C-USA teams had very high ticket guarantees, much higher than what MAC teams sell.
hammb's right. Remember Marshall's bowl invite last year? That was courtesy of C-DOA making a huge ticket guarantee; the attendance for that bowl was horrible, but mattered little.
The bowls are all about money and a big ticket guarantee from C-DOA assures a bowl that it will "sell" a lot of tickets. C-DOA fans will crow about all their bowl bids and how they believe it shows their conference's superiority in terms of quality of play; but it merely shows that their conference is willing to buy its way into more bowls. Not saying that's good or bad or that the MAC shouldn't do the same thing, but that's what it is.
