Post by BGSU33 »

Think there isn't much excitement about the Motor City Bowl from Akron? Think again, they've sold out of their ticket allotment and are looking for more! Akron football has jumped ahead 20 years in one season. Read on:

a coworker of mine has a daughter in the band at UA. each band member gets six comp tickets. that's gotta be at least 1,000 tickets. do you think that counts toward their allotment? bg band folks, did you get comp tickets when we went in 2003?

It could count, but even still, the fact they have blown through their allotment of tickets and are looking for more is very impressive. Especially since there was some posts on here about how Akron would have about 500 fans there. At Virginia, they gave the University 1,500 right off the top for bowl games for the staff, faculty, etc. I'm guessing this could be similar to what Akron is doing.

You know.... Good for Akron. The more MAC programs that gain strength on and off the field the better. No matter how painful it is not to see my Falcons or Redhawks at the MCB, I still want the Zips to have a successful program and defend the MAC pride.

With last night's GMAC win, the MAC is 1 for 1. Lets go 2 for 2.

GO ZIPS! GO MAC!

I also agree. ANd the thing is Akron has a pretty fun offense to watch with Getsy and Hixon and some decent tailbacks.

Go Akron, Zip up the Tiggers.

Sorry, that was funny. We did get fed (though there wasn't an overabundance of food, and apparently not enough) and we got a place to sleep and buses to transport us. The end. Maybe Akron's band is supported by their athletic department?

they do receive a cash stipend for their membership in the band. i don't know if that money comes from the athletic department, the school of fine and applied arts, student activities, a band benefactor, or some combination of the above.

Hmmm...Are there mellophones in BG's Band? If so, from my High School band-days, whenever mellophone players are involved, there's NEVER enough food around...Sorry...But that's a known fact... :D

I agree with Tech83,

The more success MAC teams have the better for us overall! I'd love to see our teams become more successful in turn, this helps with recruiting too. Geeeees, I wish BG would think outside the figgen box and set the standard for Div 1 teams with supporting fans and of course, the fans supporting their team as Akron did this year. Good job Zips!
