Its time we have a Varsity Womens team for cripes sake

Post by MACMAN »

I love hockey and I have realy enjoyed watching the growth of womens hockey over the years. there are some realy great teams out there and sadly lots of great players who are ending up with no where to play.
BGSU was a lead with mens hockey and now I see us behind the 8 ball in womens hockey. BGSU should do what needs to be done to have a Varsity womens hockey team. sadly even if that means droping some other womens sport(s) for a period of time to do so.

I sure as hell hope you aren't a sports management major or anything remotely close!!
How would you propose funding it? Hockey is a very expensive sport, and I don't believe women's hockey would be playing in front of 5,000 every night!
What women's sports do you propose dropping? Don't forget budgets?
Dropping tennis won't do much to help!!

Yes, the notion of dropping any current women's team, just to had hockey in order to keep up with the Univ. Jone's is a joke. All the womens teams we have, have long histories and many are experiencing exeptional success. Not to mention the fact that there does not seem to be a call for women's hockey from students or administrators. Dropping any current women's team would likely lead to a decrease in donations to the AD and would in the end cause more harm than good.

I'd like a beach house on Maui...would you care to guess why I don't own one?

Degradation of beach property due to global warming/melting polar caps/rising ocean levels?

You don't need to drop a womens sport, you can always add a mens sport to keep things even. A mens swimming team would probably be one of the least expensive teams to fund. Equipment costs would be lower than most sports, and the campus already has the venues required.

It doesn't make much sense to add a men's swimming program 3 years after it was cut.

Then again, if they were to add a men's sport, they've already got the pool in place. And a coach on the payroll.
