Temple game: Did you notice?

That Winovich got some good playing time at TE in the second half. Man, this kid looks good. What a motor he's got.
That Rashaun Stover carried the ball and ran well? Macon, too. Macon seems solid.
That we went from first and 32 to the end zone in a few plays?
That we scored on fourth and 11 after running the same play three or four times in a row?

Yes, I noticed that
And that's the reason for the last two items.
But the first two were gratifying to see. Stover is a real talent and, if he stays focused, should be our #2 back.
And it's been mentioned here before, but I hate the idea of burning a year of Winovich's eligibility so he can cover kickoffs. I'm taking this as a sign that, if progresses well over the course of the season, he may get some meaningful playing time once we enter the stretch run.

Things I noticed at the BG/Temple game at the Linc:
1-BG had more fans than Temple did.
2-I was asked 5-6 times why there is no green in our uniform.
3-Was also asked 5-6 times "where in Indiana is Bowling Green?"
4-Listening to WIP (Philly sports talk radio) on my way back to NY made me sick. The two bone-heads hosting the show were making BG sound like a DIII team. They could not believe the Owls gave up 70 pts. to a team that isn't that good. They talked about how we just got our back sides cleaned by NIU who almost lost to the Saloukies two weeks ago. These guys (can't remember their names) obviously have no idea of our program and the MAC in general. I was going to call in while driving but I had a lot of lubrication in me from tailgating and wasn't speaking in clear sentences.
One stat these guys did mention was that BG once scored 125 points (I think) in a game against Findlay back in like 1925...
5-The new unis are very cool. Guys that were with me from Philly said the same thing. I'm even starting to like the Falcon on the helmet.
Beat CMU!!!!!!!!!!!!

I detest sports talk radio, but WIP is so bad it belongs in a league all its own. Their arrogance is only exceeded by their ignorance. Hence, their reaction is absolutely no surprise. My absolute favorite pet peeve: Their announcers will let any lunatic rant and rave at length whether they agree with their view or not. Once someone tries to layout a semi-reasonable point that is counter to their worldview, the caller is immediately cutoff in mid-sentence and dismissed as not knowing what they'ret alking about. Morons.
I didn't say anything about the uniforms, but my wife finally chimed in. "What's with the uniforms, anyway?" What do you mean? "They look horrible." I had to agree. Helmets look as bad in person as I thought they would. Noah loves the big Falcon on the pants.
Temple's band, cheerleaders and dance team outnumbered their fans, easily. Even combining them with their fans, I believe you are right. Again, unprompted, my wife looked around and said, "Why are there more Bowling Green fans here than Temple fans?" I think the final score answered that question for her.

Another Philly take on the game

Bowling Green 70, Temple 16
Since the Owls are being booted out of the Big East at the end of the season, more than a few folks thought the Mid-American Conference might be a viable option for the future. They might want to re-evaluate that.
The Owls are two games into what coach Bobby Wallace had called a make-or-break five-game stretch. They lost last week at Toledo, another MAC team, 45-17.
This one was at the Linc. Didn't matter. It was the most points Temple had given up since a 76-0 loss to Pitt in 1977. The details are mostly irrelevant. It was 42-9 at the half.
The Owls (1-4) have lost 11 in a row to I-A opponents. Their losses this year are by an average of nearly 34 points a game. Getting mugged by Virginia or Maryland is one thing. But 70 is one of those numbers that tends to get noticed on a national level.
Right now, there simply aren't any answers.
The Owls host Pitt this Saturday. The Panthers aren't good. The same can be said for much of the Big East. This was supposed to be Temple's opening. But even if the Owls can win a few before they leave, will anyone still care?
The Owls are committed to an ambitious independent schedule in 2005. There were 12,316 in the house for Bowling Green (2-2).

151 POINTS
Metz,
Not that it's all that important, but the BG media guide lists the score as 151-0 in 1921.... Gad, what a defense!

Stover as 2nd RB
87,
Glad you and your family had a chance to enjoy the game and meet the players without the "long haul" trip.
Also happy that someone else besides me (and the Freak) sees the talent that Stover has... I've said it before and I'll repeat it again," unless he screws up in practice, he and PJ should be alternating with BJ as the #3 guy(he does offer a slightly different look). But to me, Stover combines the ingredients of Pope's power and Lane's quickness. Plus, he's an instinctive runner, and that can't always be taught. 8)

Re: 151 POINTS
I wonder if that was an actual game or if just the offense took the field every play? That's a heck of a lot of points right there! I would love to see a team do that now-a-days! I'd cheer for them...I love running up the score!Class of 61 wrote:Metz,
