BG back to the MAC East again?

Post by BGSU33 »

With Marshall and UCF leaving the MAC (both teams are in the East), this "could" be BG's last season the MAC West. BG very well could be headed back to the East next year, unless, there is something in the works to bring in another team before next season. Personally, I'd rather play in the East. I didn't like it when we moved to the West in the first place. Any thoughts.

I think we are clearly the logical choice if we do move someone back, rather than bringing in new teams. I think we would have a much better chance to get to the MACC game year after year in the east thats for sure. As long as we can keep our western rivalries going.

I didn't like moving to the West.

I don't like the thought of moving to the East.

The Toledo game will lose quite a bit of meaning, even if we keep playing it every year.

And NIU is a good rivalry.

I continue to think Ball State should move over, not us.

I would hate to move back to the East now. We are developing what may become a great rivalry with NIU. By having both NIU and Toledo on the schedule we are going to be almost guaranteed two nationally televised games as long as all three of these teams remain competitive.

....or the MAC could push out 3 schools: Take your pick of Akron, Kent, Buffalo, CMU and EMU and go with a stronger 9-team conference with each team playing one another.

NEW AND IMPROVED MAC:

NIU
WMU
Toledo
BGSU
Ball State
Miami
Ohio
2 teams from this list (Akron, Kent, Buffalo, CMU and EMU)

I think we'd have to take kent and EMU from that list, mostly for basketball, unless this 9 team conf is just for football, and you mean to keep the other sports all inclusive?

But I like that idea, the MAC while having many perenially good teams in a variety of sports, jsut has too many dogs in it that arent one time deals. Buffalo as an example. Doing some house keeping and maybe even bringing in some other teams, like stealing Troy for football, or a variety for basketball could make the MAC a lot stronger year after year.

well...why not have a football division for the 9 schools that demonstrate the committment to improve and make the league stronger with those schools not making the cut of 9 participating in the MAC for basketball and all other sports?.

Perhaps some of these schools (i.e. Kent) will decide that Div I-A football is too much of strain on its athletic budget and will either drop to I-AA or dismantle the program alltogether. That would be the easy way. Perhaps a Kent State w/o football will provide more assets/funding to make the basketball program even stronger.

they shouldnt abandon football, maybe just make up a conf liek sunbelt, full of the smaller schools that dont focus on football so much, or jsut are plain bad at it.

I wouldn't miss Eastern Michigan or Akron.

Buffalo is worthwhile for the big market; Kent State has been with us for ever and has a great program aside from football; Central Michigan has a pretty good program and some football tradition.

I'll agree that BGSU "logically" should be in the east. I wasn't in favor of being in the west, and I still don't like it much. What is done, is done though. The west was seen as the weak sister of the MAC when we go moved. That obviously isn't the case. However it is not a given, that east will remain weak as it is now. I'd just as soon leave things be for now. Kent, Akron, UB, and OU are dog games, but at least Kent and OU were/are traditional games. Miami goes without saying, and we are assured the UT game. I think over time, we'll have a rough road no matter which division we are in.

I've got to believe something is going to happen by this summer with Marshall and UCF leaving the MAC. With those two leaving, that puts the MAC at 12 teams with 7 in the West and 5 in the East. Something is going to happen. If we don't add a team or two, it would just seem to make sense to slide one MAC West team to the MAC East and balance the conference out at 6 & 6. My vote would be for BG. I hated leaving the East, and I'd like to go back.
GO BG!!!
