Where does Boise State go from here?

Do you think that Boise will drop off with the loss of Hawkins or will they continue to be a solid team with the next HC?

The loss of Hawkins obviously affects the team a great deal for next year. Do we think we will have an easier time with Boise because they will be without Hawkins and adjusting to a new leader?

I was just interested to hear some other people's thoughts on Boise's particular situation, since it will affect us next year as well.

They continued to thrive when the last coach left, and I assume they will do the same now. The new guy will have to prove himself, of course.

Hawkins has been talked about by several schools in the last couple of years due to his success. However, the story that has been reported multiple times is that ultimately a lot of schools backed off b/c they were wary of his unusal affinity for Phil Jackson-like "Zen-philosophy."

The view in many circles is that Chris Peterson, the new Head Coach and former Offensive Coordinator, was the engine that made the car go. Peterson is very highly thought across the board and I don't think Boise will miss a beat, if Peterson is able to establish himself and handle the additional duties.

My guess is that the fans will initially love Peterson, but eventually he will be chastized for not having enough experience as a head coach and for not being able to make the proper halftime adjustments when they finally lose a game at home.

We have 18 starters returning next year, and our new coach is highly regarded by the players and community. We won't have any worries with our offense for next year, anyway.

Yes, Coach Petersen will have a learning curve, but most Bronco fans believe we'll be better next year, even with Hawk leaving.

I expect Boise St to continue with their highly successful program. They will be a tough team in 2006.

I bet the Broncos will be just fine- or finer. This team and university are in a rather unique position. After spending two days out there this year when we played BSU, I can see some of their advantages. There are no other college teams within 275 miles of Boise. Even in the wide open West that is the path to being the ONLY show in town- and in the state. They are THE sports story as I don't think the minor league baseball team is much of a distraction. 300,000 people in the immediate area.

Sure, the Broncs compete with hunting and fishing. But not with two league teams within one hour, two Big Ten teams within two hours, big time pro sports and so on. This is a big secret to their success.

Not many football players to recruit in the area? As long as you have a nice flight available to all spots on the west coast, you can find players who want to play. Plus the Idaho JC system is in place along with the California version. But the Broncs get good HS players. I think that philosophy will continue under the new coach.

As the capital city of Idaho, the city and school seem to be likewise well positioned (yet with a curious dearth of on campus housing). They seem well funded by the state relatively speaking. They seem to have some decent facilities overall, but football is absolutely the king pin. The money is spent (and generated by) football. What an indoor facility; I am sure it is very much needed.

Then the other advantages such as playing in a league with about three good teams every year, home games on a blue field wearing blue unis (a serious advantage-notice they wore white in the bowl game), TV appearances and so on.

All in all, I salute Boise State and their fans. I look forward to their visit and, hopefully, we will be ready to play. Personally, I don't believe we were ready last September for a number of reasons. Now we get another chance.
