I won't comment on the UT to the Big East stuff but here is some news about Memphis. Check out the December 12 news (scroll down).

Miami is gearing up for something. No one really knows what is going on, but if you look at all the improvements, there is something going on. And it's more than just Miami's Bicentennial in 2009. Also, there is an unwritten rule, Miami and Ohio stick together. Oh well. Miami's not jumping ship anytime soon, anyways.

Memphis is just about a "lock" in my mind.

Memphis has been positioning itself for such a move for a long time.

:!:

Let 'em leave. At least then we'd be Guaranteed a home game with BcS school every other year

That is of course if the Big East is still a BCS conference by then, or if the BCS even still exists.
As long as they kept us on the schedule. Remember the great Pitt-Penn State rivalry--that ended when Penn went Big 10?

Miami will not demand that OU gets an invite in order to join the Big East if the offer ever comes up.

TR: Have to agree with that. I also wonder what Cincy would think of Miami joining the BE fold.

Precisely why Miami won't ever join the Big East.

And there is an unwritten agreement between the two schools. It's just understood. Believe me, these two schools have been around for 200 years. We know how to be patient.

The only comment I will make here on the subject is to listen to 1987alum. He is a smart man that knows a heck of a lot more than the average fan.

If Toledo, Ohio and miami all left the MAC would be worthless to be in. We would be in the sun belt, it would be very hard for me to back a Division 2 football team, mediocre football isnt fun.

If UT were to bolt for the Big East, I would congratulate them. The MAC wouldn't be the same and even if we continued playing them, I don't think the rivalry would be the same. I would be sad if UT left the MAC or Miami for that matter. If they do head out in the next couple years, I hope it is after the 2007 season. I would love for their last game in the MAC to be at the Doyt and BG send them packing with a serious tail-kicking (ala Marshall in 2004).

Why is Miami a natural to go to the Big East? During any given year if they have bad weather twice on gameday, their football program gets put on double secret D2 attendance probation and no one goes to the basketball games except to take a nap.

I have no doubt that schools will continue to jump from conference to conference, and Toledo or Kent or Akron seem like the best fits out of the MAC to go Big East.

Coaches will tell a kid anything to get him to sign.

Not to mention that Miami (1) is not a research institution and thus has a small graduate school and (2) is in a small town.
