How a QB performs in his freshman year has next to nothing to do with how he will perform in his next three years. Omar didn't look so hot as a freshman and we all know how that turned out. J5 was a running back his freshman year. AT made some bad throws and reads, and also made some good ones in a husk of an offense surrounded by players who were not making plays for him.
I'm not sure he's that guy yet either, but I'm not dreading to see him take the field like some seem to be either (not directed at you Option). Give the kid a chance if Omar decides to move on.

Turner impressed the heck out of me at the spring game last year. He didn't look nearly as comfortable when he played this past season.
At this point I don't think it's even remotely fair to pass any sort of judgement on him one way or the other. He's definitely talented, and from all accounts has the right makeup, but only time will tell.
As for this thread I gave up on seeing Omar play in Orange & Brown again a long time ago. Hell in my world the Miami & UT games were just a small bonus.

IMO AT is much more Harrislike than Jacobsesque (what the .... ). In the early going Harris would pull it down and run at the drop of a hat. Later on he stayed in the pocket a little more and let a play develop. I see an early Harris in AT. I think he is going to make more big plays with his feet than with his arm, at least early on. I think they will go back to more of the spread option - with designed QB runs. I'm kind of excited to see it.
Besides, its the defense that worrys me...

I agree. I'm not giving up on AT either, I'm just not sold on him yet either. I'm an easy sell, but what I saw in the spring game was nothing like what I saw against Akron, WMU or Kent State. Yes, I know he's just a red-shirt freshman and I think he'll get a lot better, but he's got to to improve on what he's done so far. But I keep going back to the Temple game and ask why we didn't let him throw a few passes other than the one he threw (which was a pick) in case we ever needed him in a game situation like we ended up facing. We we're up 70-7, it's not like letting him throw on third-and-eight is going to hurt us. Oh well, what's done is done. But I do expect to see a much improved Turner down the road, but I'd just love to see Omar for one more season.OptionQB wrote:I can understand nerves and a watered down offense that could make Joe Montana subpar, but under-throwing receivers and throwing behind them has nothing to do with that. That being said, AT has a ton of potential, I'm just not sure, he's "that guy."

You know what, I hate to be the crusher here, but we've got a long road of losing ahead of us! We don't have a quality QB, our "D" sucks hard, do we even have a special teams? I'm stopping with this just to give us all a reality check! I can see that endowment decreasing every year and Toledo surpassing us! I hate this FACT because I have a so-called buddy that graduated from Pee U, and he never let's the fact get away from me that we just can't beat them! Academically we've got them, but the sports they have us or their catiching up to us (as far as wins and loses against them).
AT showed some things that make me wonder if we might not actually improve with him running the show. OJ just couldn't or wouldn't run it as well as it could have been (the ball that is, on the ground.) And as good as Harris was and is, I think a better passer with his running skills could have been a world-beater. AT might be that person.
There were times you could almost hear the other teams defensive coachs going "oh hell" when AT started to scramble like Harris did.

I don't foresee any talk of BG being a BCS buster next year, but I don't see a "long road of losing ahead of us" either. AT was a top 40 QB recruit coming out of high school. He played in 3 games as a redshirt freshman and had some success and some disappointment. He played great in the spring game prior to his redshirt freshman year. Sounds a lot like Omar Jacobs to me. I won't go on any further because the discussion in this thread has pretty much hit all points on AT. Is he the next Donovan McNabb? Probably not. Is he the next Ricky Schneider? I doubt it.ChicagoFalcon wrote:You know what, I hate to be the crusher here, but we've got a long road of losing ahead of us! As far as the D, that's another debate for another time. I think we will see a significant improvement in the D over the next couple years. We have some big-time young talent on the defensive side and the recruits that are coming in on the defense look really solid.

Out of curiosity, how did you find this out? I haven't seen anything official anywhere else stating Quinn announcing he was coming back. I'm not saying this isn't accurate, I was just curious where you heard or saw this?Germainfitch1 wrote:Quinn announced he is staying.

Found nothing of the sort in a Google News search... unless he just said he wasn't "coming out", and CNNSI took it the wrong way.OptionQB wrote:I saw it in the the "Truth and Rumors" section on Cnnsi.com . . . It was reported as fact and said it happened yesterday.
You know, not that there's anything wrong with that...

man u people need to get off rhett magners nutz already just because of what cole did. he is not anywhere near close on the depth chart. if brantley is healthy i heard he can do some amazing things, u people forget he PLAYED as a freshmen. Now what other reciever do you know lately that has been able to do that. and i mean a true freshmen. and i cant believe i heard bad things about ruben on here. ruben is sweet. what other tight end do u know that cud have made the switch to reciever like he did. im telling you, if brantley is healthy he is going to be our number 1. and b jones is like a mcgradey type reciever. parks well be our number 2. partridge in the slot on the strong side and ruben in the slot on the week side. that doesnt sound to bad to me. o and if at is the guy next year, look for the offense to go back to what it was when J5 was here, more designed qb read's and draws.

sorry i know its rubin not ruben. its late, lol. also i think our linebacking core well be better next year because teddy p is going to be gone. he was the softest lb ive ever seen. we all noticed t-white was a beast and i heard adrian baker is good too and he is also very big. theres also been talks of moving dozier to linebacker since hargrove jumped him in the depth chart.

"If Brantley is healthy" is a big if..... Ruiz had some problems catching the ball lat year. It'd be great if he could settle in as a Mike Williams kind of WR...well, Mike at USC. Mike at USC could get a little seperation from the DB's and use his size. Mike in the NFL is fat, slow and afraid of contact...
Dozier played some LB last year. I think the fact that we have two incoming freshman being told they have a chance to start could be a bad sign for the LB corps...or it could be a good thing if they're as talented as they're reported to be.
Don't be suprised if Derek Brighton steps in right away at WR...
