All you have to do is consider the source......

BG was scheduled for this tournament two or three years ago. At the time, it was a good deal for us. If you look at the records of the four teams involved, you could say it was a reasonable match up.

I think a lot of this tournament can be atributed to scouting. The CCHA has (or at least used to have) a video exchange policy. The tape of the game you just played goes to your opponent's next opponent while you receive a tape of the game your next opponent last played. Tapes of teams from outside your conference are hard to come by. CCHA teams watch hours of tapes while preparing for games. They know every move that the other teams like to make. They can predict who will be on the ice in what situations. 12 goals in two games shows just how much talent this team really has. Great wins and great momentum builders. Watch out for this team in the second half of the season.

Awesome Win!

Post by BGSU Crazy Fan 58 »

I really thought we had a great chance to win this tournament and give us some major momentum into 2006. I'm so glad we won it, great job guys! This shows how much potential we have. I really see us having an awesome 2nd half and roll into the CCHA playoffs with a real good chance to pull off a first or maybe even 2nd round win. Let's Go Falcon Hockey- now is the time to turn up the intestity and rock the rest of the CCHA!!!
ROLL ALONG!

dannyk wrote:We will take a win but the fact that we would even want to be in a tournament like this shows exactly where are program is right now. Many teams like Uconn and other small no scholly D1 teams play in rinks seating the same as the Tam O Shanter youth arena in Toledo(about 250). It is good to see Frazee and some of the other seniors see some ice though.
Where else would you propose BG play?

They've been to the Mariucci Tournament (Minnesota) and the Denver Cup (Denver) within the last five years. I highly doubt they'll get invited back to the Badger Showdown (Wisconsin) after winning it two years in a row in the mid-90s. They'll never go to the GLI and I can't see any advantage in going to the Ohio Hockey Classic and playing Miami and Ohio State, teams they see plenty of times during in-league play. That leaves the Everblades Classic in Estero, FL and a handful of smaller tournaments.

Got back last night from the game at UCONN at 1:30 am and was going to post but fell asleep at the computer.

It was definately the men against the boys on the ice last night. Execpt for the last 6-7 minutes of the first period we skated very well. UCONN looked exhausted by the third period. Horell looked solid between the pipes. Sat behind the bench and heard the boys having a lot of fun on the ice/bench.

Even though the competition was not what we will see in the CCHA is was so important to have these wins andhave a little confidence. Let's hope it carries through.

Talkng to some of the UConn fans, BG was the best team they've seen in thier barn in many years.

Drew,
Yes the U. Conn Tourney is not the Badger Tornament, but a
tournament win is a tournament win. The UConn Arena is not
as good as our arena; but (in my humble opinion) is right in there with Notre Dame, WMU, Ferris and Miami.
What do you want from a bouncyball school?

TG1996,
Frazee is put into the game with 5 minutes left. Our team is up
by more than a touchdown and not pressing like a 3 -2 game.
That goal was not Bob's fault!
Fire him you say?!
Applaud the guy. He practices or works out every day for the last 15 years,
sits behind Siggy for years, wins at WMU last year, and then sits some more.
You want to fire him because the defense failed him on his first shot on goal of the season; give the guy a break.

TG was just being funny, as in "Fire Brandon, Fire Dakich, Fire Paluch!" He is a great poster with a good sense of humor. Heck, he even drove over three hours to see the one-period BG-Ferris game!!! Now that's a hockey fan....but the real question is: Will he come back on a Monday night to see the makeup game....me thinks not!

It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Thanks, FF! She pretty much hit it on the head, I agree it was great to see Frazee get in, I just happened to check the stats update when it said "1 GA, 0 SV"

And as for the makeup game, if you can talk to my boss, or get a private jet down here to zip me back and forth during my dinner break, I'll be there!

He was probably looking at the live stats off of UConn. In order to get 4 saves, Frazee would have had to have had 0 Saves at one point

Yes, Bob only had a handful of saves, but a couple of them were absolutely spectacular! I was sitting directly behind him throughout the game and it was awesome to see him skate out there in the third with a huge smile on his face. And the goal that he let in was entirely the defense's fault - they allowed a trailer to squeeze through on the open side of the net and with Bob having committed to his right hand side, there was absolutely nothing he could do. I thought it was great that everytime he made a save every BG fan was clapping and yelling for him. Those who have a clue definately appreciate what Bob brings to this team, and it was great to see people recognize that, even so far from home.

As far as the rest of the game goes, only one word can describe it: DOMINATION. I have never seen BG so completely dominate another team - and that includes both times that I have watched us scrimmage Windsor. It was truly a thing of beauty to watch and really made the drive worthwhile. It was also funny watching one particular older UConn fan get pissed as the game went along. He kept yelling "happy Halloween!" everytime we would score, and after about four or five times of him doing it I finally responded "And Merry Christmas!" It was even more funny when he lost it late in the third and looked at me and said "Next time bring your football or basketball team - we'll blow the hell out of you guys." Being so astounded that an old man would get this irrational I simply turned around and said "Boy, that was mature..." He left before I got the chance to tell him that our football team would make their D-IAA program look silly. 8)

Hopefully we can carry the momentum from this tourney win into the Colgate game and beyond. I have thought all season long that this team needed to stumble upon their potential in order to realize it, and that is exactly what they did this past weekend. I really think we are going to see a much different team in the second half than we did in the first. GO FALCONS!!!!!

Great to hear!! I could tell by Andy's call of the game that Bobby was doing VERY well. I hope he gets a similar chance to play at home too!!! I also loved your story about the old man...reminded me of the time up at the Joe when we beat MSU in the first round (first time to beat them there in a LONG time). We Falcon fans were going nuts at the end when an old lady with a big green hat on came down the aisle to leave and stopped and yelled at me to tell me that I "was just disgusting!" Guess she didn't like how were were celebrating the impending win. That was 1988, Paluch's senior year!! That win was truly one of the best!!!! Beating LSSU in the final next day was sweet, too, but NOTHING compared to beating the Green Meanies the day before!!! Those days are coming back, folks, BELIEVE IT!!!

I apologize to bg1996. Fire the Puckhead !

One of the best parts of the trip to UConn was the number of
people in Orange. There was as much Orange as there was
UMass Maroon or UConn Blue. Their teams/parents are from
Ct., Mass, or NY. We had fans/parents from BC, Arizona, Ohio,
Mich. and Colorado. We are great fans!

Bleeding Orange, you found the one grumpus at UConn,
when leaving I got a hug and UConn Hockey pin from one of the usherettes. The hospitality from UConn was great.

Predictions:
Tuesday we beat Coach Ron's Alma Mater.
Friday we beat The Suckeyes in OT
Saturday we beat them 6 - 4.
Skate fast
Hit hard
Have fun
