Univ of Miami - Peach Bowl
That beatdown was one of the more enjoyable games of the year.

Did anyone else see the segment where they talked to the Chick-fil-A representative and he said that starting next year the "Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl" would now be called the "Chick-fil-A Bowl". My suspicion is that there will be one hell of a back-lash for dropping "Peach". It would likely never happen, but could you imagine if the "Rose Bowl presented by Citi" dropped the "Rose" and and called it the "Citibank Bowl". The Big 10 and Pac10 fans would go ballistic.
As long as they keep those damn funny "Eat Mor Chikin" commercials, I'm cool with it.UK Peregrine wrote:Did anyone else see the segment where they talked to the Chick-fil-A representative and he said that starting next year the "Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl" would now be called the "Chick-fil-A Bowl". Eh the Peach BOwl, for a logn time a second rate bowl which has done well to market itself and move up the ranks to actually talk about BCS potential, really doesn't mean that much to me as a college football fan. Heck I can remember getting excited watching East Carolina knock off instate foe NC State at the Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium.
This to me is like when the California Bowl took the sponsorship money and changed the name to the Raisin Bowl, not really a big deal. If it were the Orange or Rose or Sugar, then yes I would understand it, but c'mon the Peach Bowl has less history in it than Keith Jackson's left pinky finger.

Sure in terms of magnitude, the Rose and Orange exceed the Peach. But to be fair the Peach Bowl's history is nothing to be so easily dismissed. The game has been played continuously since 1968. It has had such greats as Jim Kelly, Mike Singletary, Wilber Marshall, Randy White, and Reggie White play in the game. To me this whole sponsorship topic is a slippery slope argument, if we can so easily remove the Peach Bowl name, a bowl with its sights set on being included in the BCS mix, perhaps we're really not to far from the Cotton, Fiesta and Sugar Bowls being renamed. Heck, I was almost convinced that the Fiesta Bowl was in fact just the Tostitos Bowl looking at all of the adds around the stadium. I'm sure college football could live with that, after all it is ruled by the almighty dollar, but I on the otherhand don't like to see histiry and tradition so easiliy erased. Perhaps bowl will start having a Prince-like moniker. I can see it now, welcome fans to the Tostitos Bowl formerly know as the Fiesta Bowl.Dayons_Den wrote:If it were the Orange or Rose or Sugar, then yes I would understand it, but c'mon the Peach Bowl has less history in it than Keith Jackson's left pinky finger.
