Thanks for posting all those links.
It's getting very close to the time when Omar said he'd like to have a decision made about whether to return or leave early. I believe he said something about a target-date of January 1st. But like many of you said, you'd think that most of the other players who may leave early who are playing in bowl games, especially the BCS bowls, will wait until after their games and announce something then. Who knows, but every time I visit this site, I wonder if their is going to be news about Omar. I believe Omar has a future in the NFL, but I just hope its next year after he leads BG to a MAC Championship and bowl game victory.

The way he played this season, I'm still stunned to see draft places rank him that highly. He's got a ton of physical tools, so it could happen. He is the type of prospect who could definitely impress at the combine. He's accurate, got a strong arm, and will have the size to back it all up.
I'm still not sold on him for the next level. I undersold Big Ben when he was coming out because he didn't throw pretty passes, and I wasn't convinced of his arm strength. He's since improved his mechanics and still has that will to win that made him a top pick. Conversely, Omar already throws a nearly perfect ball (albeit with an awkward release), but has yet to show those instincts & leadership. When I watch Omar I still see a physical specimen that isn't developed mentally...I still think that our audible scheme is as much the coaches not having faith in the QB as anything as well...If Omar declares I'll be REAL interested to see what his wonderlick score is.

I agree, which is why I think he's probably going to take longer than January 1st for him to make his decision. I can't see these other guys (aside from Reggie Bush) declaring for the NFL before these huge bowl games, it would only be a distraction for them and their team.mk455 wrote:i think he may be waiting to hear if guys like young and quinn are going to declare... i think that'd have a big impact on his decision.
GO BG!!!
I also agree, I'm really not sure how hot of a prospect Omar is right now? I was talking to a college coach down at Virginia about Omar last week and asked him what he thought about him possibly leaving early, and he said he thought it would be very, very wise for Jacobs to come back for another season of college for multiple reasons. He liked his potential and liked what he has seen out of him so far, but he had a laundry list of reasons why he should return. Just his opinions, but he made some good points.hammb wrote:The way he played this season, I'm still stunned to see draft places rank him that highly. Financially, Omar should leave (assuming a mess of juniors don't declare).
In terms of preparing for the NFL, he should stay for his Senior year. He needs to develop his leadership skills, and get one more year of reps against some darn good teams (UW, OSU, Boise) before he is ready to go to the next level. I think he has a far greater chance of succeeding in the league if he stays one more year.
IMO, he's gone....and I would be too.

I'm surprised as well with the Omar getting hurt and underperforming this season. These draft guru's must still be using Omar's amazing first season stats as the reason to rank him so high. But I'm convinced there's no way he goes in the 1st Rd. , 2nd maybe 3rd or 4th likley.
Please Omar, one more year!

Or maybe he's being ranked because of his physical ability?

I agree with Hammb. Omar is a stud physically but I don't see enough mentally yet for him to declare. I think another year of college ball would help him immensely. Yes, I am selfish like everyone else here and want him to come back.
Omar still needs to prove his leadership skills, IMO.
We'll find out soon what he decides....
One more year, Omar.

Here's a draft message board and a thread where someone asked about Vick, Young, and Omar. There have been a few threads lately about Omar in that forum.

Omar should leave
Guys lets face the facts....Omar should leave. Besides the obvious injury risk, there is also the Scotty Thurman factor. For anyone who doesn't know who that is, he was a SG/SF for the Arkansas men's basketball team from 1991-95. Had he left after his junior year, he was a certain lottery pick, according to experts. He decided to return to school to help the Razorbacks defend their title. After a serious drop in his performance, he went undrafted the following year, and toiled overseas before calling it quits. Omar had a slight drop in his performance this year from last year (due possibly to the loss of Magner), and it has hurt his stock a little. Another drop in performance next year, and common sense say it would hurt his stock considerably. Couple that with losing 2 of the best receivers in BG history (Sanders and Sharon), and Omar could look like Daunte Culpepper did this year after losing Randy Moss. I would love to see him at BG next year, but Omar needs to go. He should set himself financially for the rest of his life while it is still pretty much guaranteed.
