Sitko/Barnett etc

Just a question for the insiders. It seems that Paulch likes to play upperlassman over young guys even if a frosh may be more talented. Why has Sitko seen so little ice. When he is on the ice he is our most intimidating D-man. On offense seniors like Barnett, and Pilkington(although got some pts this weekend) are always in the lineup no matter what. I dont understand the philosophy. If you have freshman that can put up a couple goals a year like Barnett and Dobek wouldnt it make sense to put them in, instead of waiting to initiate them into the college game next year?

Because you can't just throw players into a line and expect them to produce. I have full trust in Pooch that he knows how to coach this team.

I shouldn't even respond to this question, but to say that this shows how little "dannyk" actually knows about the game of hockey.

Producing points is not the ONLY thing that makes a player an important part of a team. Dobek and Barnett and players like them have other responsibilities than just scoring goals. They are also responsible for winning face offs, playing on a short handed unit and are also on the ice as a defensive type of line, often against the other team's top scoring line. Etc! ETC! Heck, even the Red Wings have a "Grind" line...and it made them famous! 8)

We have a scoring line and hopefully we can continue to build another one. Any time a player like Dobek and Barnett scores, it's an added bonus. Look, Bryan's goal was a major contribution to our win in the first game of the last tourney.

The coaching staff makes the decisions on who gets ice time based on the situation, not only during the game, but while watching practice.

I appreciate that you are just asking a question, but I guess it was the tone of the question that got me. My question to you would be this...who should fill their shoes? While I agree that at times there are players on this team that I would sit in situations, because they do not seem to be giving it 100% and would give another possibly "younger" player more playing time, but I don't think that Barnett or Dobek are that player. Of course, I've just been watching the game since October of 1976...what do I know?

I would love to see Sitko on the ice every game. I would like to see Rusty Sinkewich, Jon Ralph, Jon Erickson play every game;
but who would you suggest that we sit.
That is why we pay Pooch the big bucks, so that you and I can can second guess him.
For now, I'll let Pooch and Ron do the coaching, I trust their judgement.

Good explanation, Erika!!! And, dannyk, because we are fans, we are certainly allowed to ask those questions, but know that on this hockey forum, you're probably going to get a very legitimate and technical response to your questions. In fact, that is why it's good to ask those questions, as someone, generally a veteran fan of the BGSU hockey program, will jump in here and be more than willing to educate you!! Not to mention Barnett has more goals so far this week than he had the entire first half of the season. Tuesday night, I was thinking it'd be cool to see him score because of how hard he was working out there. It was great to see him get the last one against Colgate.

I agree, he sure has paid his dues, with all the ice time he missed last year!! I couldn't be happier for him!!! What a senior year to have!! I expect him to continue to contribute!!!! Great Job, Ryan!!!

I'm in agreement with you rc_ziggy84, tonight for the most part it seemed like he played a better defensive game, pushing his man wide and taking him out.

I had a chance to travel to Columbus to watch the team play, it didn't seem like they had much energy. Given the fact that they tend to feed off the energy from the crowd, one can see why everything seemed less energized.

However, tomorrow is a new day and I expect to see them going full tilt with the suckeyes of Columbus tomorrow to keep this win streak going well into the new year.

Here's something we haven't been able to say for a while..... Sweep the B(S)uckeyes!
