Maybe I should quit band, turn the fat into muscle, and join the team too! What team couldn't use a 6'5" 310lb lineman???Flipper wrote:Let's move him to cornerback. A 260lb corner would be scary. We can make Parks the kicker. Ain't nobody going to tangle with a 240lb kicker. We can then put the fattest kid on campus at DE. That'll keep the wind from blowing the rest of the line down.
I'll play DT. I'm old, a little fat (note: I said a LITTLE fat) and slow, but I weigh 285lbs. See there, I should start...
Leininger done for the season????

Oh Puleeeeeeezzzee!!!!!
You guys arent really hearting me are you?
You take my comments constantly out of context. Come on, you guys are smarter than this. :coo-coo: Like I really believe that Williams would make an awesome CB, get real people! I have nothing against Mr. Brad Williams , I'm sure he's great guy and football player, but that doesnt' negate the plain fact that he is not DT , nor will he ever be a true DT, not in D1. college football anyway. He probably very easily gets away with that size in D.2 or D.3. But in D1. football , his size and strength level puts him as likely DE or MLB which he came in as anyway. I'm sure the guy busts is butt out there every time. Not questioning that in no way shape or form. But he's not given the best chance to suceed in his present position on defense. Hammb knows this as well. In fact you all know this deep down , but don't want to admit it for fear of appearing insensitive. I really hope Brad gets 10 sacks this year if it were possible.
So lets be real Temple's O-line had no fight in them to speak of in that game and we all know it. They were already mentally decimated and we just finished em' off.

You haven't been working on your effective writing skills. Go back and try my lesson. It will solve these communication problems. Trust me.
And seriously, Let's let this be the last thread on peanut gallery comments of Mr Williams. He is now my favorite player.

Just remember that the next time we lose a game.factman wrote:Just wondering how much DT falconboy played that he has so much knowledge of what it takes to play the position. I'll take speed and strength anytime, especially against spread offenses.
I can guarantee you it will be because our DL gets dominated by an opponent's OL. I can make that guarantee because that's how we've been beaten in every single loss the past 3 seasons. USF, NIU x2, UT, Miami x2, OSU, OU. Every one of these teams shoved our undersized DL around because they have big strong OL.
Falconboy's writing style is abrasive, crude, and appears unintelligible, but in this particular case he's actually got a decent point. Sometimes I think his agreement with me weakens my position, but so be it. Our DL is too small to be effective against a good OL in Division 1A football.

Isn't this comment true for say 105 or 110 so schools. Size with the athleticism to play DL doesn't grow on trees, otherwise everyone would have D-lines that are huge, fast and strong. You recruit what you can and make due. BG's line is fast and decent sized for the NCAA.hammb wrote: Our DL is too small to be effective against a good OL in Division 1A football.
I mean really, when is the last time anyone's seen a D-line that can match-up with sizes any of the O-lines in college football. OLs are just huge anymore.

Huge and fat in many instances (unlike me....
) I think the game would be more enjoyable for the players and the fans if they pare those hogs down a little. Sports Illustrated did a great article on the injury rate in the NFL back in 2001. Linemen are getting so big that some of them hurt themselves simply falling down. A 325lb object falling and accelerating at the rate of gravity (3.25m per second sqaured?) will create a lot of energy when it hits the ground. Newton's laws apply on the football field, so that energy is then transferred back into the player....
Ouch.
Ouch.
Hammb, I think you and falconboy put way too much blame on the defensive lineman for our run defense problems. The Llinebackers must be held more accountable. The duty of the DL is to just clog up space and keep the OL from getting to the LB. It is NOT necessarily their job to make tackles. That is the job of the LBs. The DL and LB must work together to stop the run. While our DL may be undersized (I don't want to argue about that so I will just accept that point of view), the LBs need to come off the blocks better and make more tackles. When you see Newson and Carswell leading the team in tackles, it tells me that the linebackers are not doing their job.hammb wrote:Just remember that the next time we lose a game.factman wrote:Just wondering how much DT falconboy played that he has so much knowledge of what it takes to play the position.
