BG Ice Arena ROCKS!!!

Uh...no...actually OSU Hockey doesn't sell out their games in The Shott, as the hockey team down there is suffering from "minor league syndrome" in the shadow of the football team. Because the place is SOOOO frickin' big, it's like a tomb in there for a game. I'll take our rink ANY DAY over that place. All the bells and whistles don't give you the atmostphere that we get right here in BG in our arena!!!!

It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

I don't think anybody failed to appreciate the past, but too many people in their 40s trying to explain what seemed like ancient history. IE, the entire "sucks" issue with remains today. In Sec. E we were more interested in getting under the officals skin than the other goalie. Though York was there at the start, when Buddy arrived, he switched where the goalies started, and that did a lot to end the focus on that.

What I think was great about Sec. E was that it generally came about on its own, as the next bunch will. I won't compare the Sideline Squad with a direct comparison to any of the hockey groups. Two different animals.
Not speaking personally, but many people find Section E vulgar, unimaginative, and not at all funny. Not to mention unfit for impressionable, young children. Absolutely nothing comes out of section E that is worth repeating.

You weren't at the get together so you have absolutely no idea how well the presentation was received, therefore you have no basis for your comments concerning the attempt to revitalize the crowd as well as the atmosphere and history of sections A & H.

It is a fact that section E developed as a result of York switching home sides in the arena....a large portion of section H migrated to section E as a result. Most in section A chose not to and suffered due to the lack of response from section H (which moved to section E) as well as the team's decent into mediocrity.

I realize section E is where your roots are and that's fine, but section A is where it all started and, IMO, was the best atmosphere BG hockey has ever experienced.

As I think back to when the atmosphere started to change, I remember when Miami was the only rink that used recorded music as a filler before faceoffs, etc.
Slowly, the devil's music migrated northward, infiltrating the cornfields, silencing the pep band, paralyzing the organists, and dumbing down the fertile minds of the Falcon youth. What was left was mindless, head-bobbing "fans", who began to lose their sense of community.
Luckily, a messiah has come from Chicago by way of Boston, who understands and appreciates the whole of college hockey.
Rise up, and be healed!

You're killing me, BGBill!

Seriously though, on your other points of the music interferring with the band, I think that is something that needs to be addressed with the Coach. It's a very FIXABLE thing!!!

ONE WEEK FROM TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GO HOCKEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nono, what I meant was, the onyl games WE sell out are when osu comes to town. and thats b/c our own students and locals go to the game to cheer for osu, not BGSU....its sad, that was point I was making.

But you are right, it is pathetic when you have a top 10 ranked hockey team and you sell about no tickets and a half. I went down for the playoffs last year in round 1, and they didnt have too many more fans there than we do at home...quite pathitic

Actually I have every right to say what I did, and will continue too. I didn't claim to be at the presentation, though I'd have liked to have seen it. I'm totally in favor of helping keep things alive, though I think it does not require the coaches (or others) to micro-manage things. I think there is something to be said about providing some historical perspective, but again, it is a mistake to think we can revive something from 20 years ago, or even 15 years ago.

I'm not making fun of the old cheers. Every new group of students to arrive at BGSU will have its own style. If older folks disliked aspects of late incarnation of Sec. E, I can understand that. It got more vulgar as things progressed as I recall, and was part of why I started avoiding the area. And I know attempts to sell old cheers, however well liked by the older fans, just did not sell. Prior to that, and even during it, I know much, if not most of what made the other Sections notable in their time existed in Sec. E. With some luck and the goalies in the right end of the arena, and above all else, a team that wins, we'll see that again.

So long as a lot of folks don't try to relive their youth through the new students, I think all will be well. The key is showing them our own past, before new students see Michigan fans and have their precious minds tainted by the experience.

Im sure some peopel do find it very vulger, but you cant avoid that. Its tradition here, and the people at the games will tell you that. the only people that dont know all of that tradition that go to the games are current students, who think its funny anyway. I think if we abandoned our old chants etc, it would be a bad idea. I be Scatty P. would LOVE to hear some of the old stuff this season to help boost his team to victory.

That's Debatable!

Post by FlagCityFalcon »

Period, no sucks, no other vulgarity...just classy THAT'S DEBATABLE. Mean to be loud and abrupt so we can get back to the game...

You people in Section E are trend more and more like those we hate (Michigan) every year. To be honest, every night, the fans make me embarrassed to be associated with BG Hockey. I can't wait to get back to the days when BG hockey fans (as a whole) were respected for being classy, knowledgeable (about the game of hockey) fans.

BTW - Section A could get under a Referee's skin just as well as the goalie.

All this said, I can't wait to see the falcons on the ice! I actually might be able to go Saturday!!

::puke:: SectionE

Go Falcons!
