A New Fan
A New Fan
hey peeps, Im a UK fan, but I wanted to come here and say that your team has a new fan now. I was very impressed with the BG and the coaching and fan support you guys had. Im going to keep up the the BG ladies too now.
As far as the game goes, ive read a couple responses toward the officials and I tend to agree. Its seems like in women's ball the officiating is horrible and there were bad calls on both sides. I was extremely impressed with Mann and besides Simone Augusts from LSU, Mann is the best offensive player UK has seen this season. UK is still very young, we start 3 sophs and a freshman and have several sophs and freshman off the bench, so I knew that BG experience would really hurt UK.
It was a great game, cant get any better than OT. But no matter the outcome I would have become a fan of your progam.
Your fans were very classy and as a fan of basketball, I can appreciate that.

Thanks for coming by Timbo! We always love to have new fans following the program. I really thought we were going to pull it out last night coming down the stretch, but losing Achter really hurt our offense in the last 5 minutes and overtime. Great clutch FT shooting by UK to seal the win.
Good luck to UK during the nasty SEC schedule.

thanx man and good luck to BG as well.
The SEC is really one of the toughest conferences in women's basketball. Right now we have 5 ranked teams in UT, LSU, Ga, Vandy and Ole Miss and other getting votes including Florida and UK. I believe that we can be right there in the top 6- usually the top 6 in the league get automatic bids to the tounment. We are really young though and this may not be the year, but next year when Mahoney and Elliott and jr's they will be really tough.
Like I said before the Mann girl is tough, as is the whole team, but she was just a stud out there.

Timbo,
Welcome to the site. Thanks for the insights. A great game...my heart was pounding listening to the game on the net.
UK seems very solid for such a young team. I'll keep dibs on UK to see how they do thru the year. Best of luck and thanks for the nice comments. We usually don't see too many nice comments from the BCS or "Big Conferences".
GO BG!~

I can't be outdone by Timbo!!!
I'm also a UK fan (run ukhoopsfans.com) and was really impressed, like Timbo said, with the team, the coach and the players. Sounds like a couple of our fans got out of hand and rude, but let me speak for everybody else when I say you all have a quality program. Somebody on my boards suggested we play every year, which sounds great, except that last night I didn't think my poor heart would make it through the game.
It really reminded me of the latter part of last year when we were in the WNIT and played some really close, competitive, hard fought games.
I'll agree on Mann and throw in Horne as well. She scared me every time she touched the ball.
Good luck and I'm sure you all will have a great year!

Horne can be a game-changer to be sure. She has tons of athleticism and when she's on, she can take over a game all by herself. But when she's off.....yuck. She can look very ugly at times and will force some shots. It's too bad (for us) you guys couldn't see this team on a day when the shots are falling. We can be downright scary if we're hitting a few threes.
Mann's a stud, and has been ever since she won MAC freshman of the year. She's a great player, and a great person to boot. She's been one of the leaders of the resurgence of BG women's basketball.
Win some games in the SEC and maybe we can meet up again in march

I don't mind her missing shots or forcing them. She is a streaky player and needs to keep shooting til she finds her touch. Then about 4 or 5 will come in a row, she'll miss another, and hit 4 or 5 more. One thing I realized last night, she is one hell of a passer!!!Jacobs4Heisman wrote:Horne can be a game-changer to be sure. I don't mind it either -- she has a ton of talent and we need her to produce at the offensive end. Her defense has really improved also. She still reaches a little bit too much, but she's always just trying to make a big play. You certainly can never fault her effort or toughness.

One of the few interesting differences in the game......
Was points from the bench for each team, UK had 19 from there bench and we had like 4 I think. UK just had the better talent at their 2 deep than us and their production off the bench was probably the other side factor.
Like I've said before I like our chances in the MAC this year. I hope UK wins all the rest of their games. Now lets get a REAL crowd out for SAT at Anderson Arena. Anderson Animals must show up in force if at all possible.
GO BG LADY FALCONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CRUSH THE ZIPS!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: One of the few interesting differences in the game......
I don't understand why you feel the need to make backhanded statements like the one above. It may in fact be true that UK does have a slight advantage in their overall 2 deep as you suggest. But, if you were to take the time to look a little closer, you would have noticed that it was 19-7 advantage in bench scoring (not 19-4) and that 13 of UK's 19 points were from Jenny Pfeiffer and BG's 7 came from Jasmine. Now as for Pfeiffer, she doesn't start, but just happens to be the third leading scorer on UK. Pfeiffer also played more minutes (39 minutes!!!) than any other UK "starter." Pfeiffer for intents and purposes is a starter. The similar situation for BG would be if BG was to start the game with our third leading scorer (Horne) on the bench and then bring Carin in like UK does with Pfeiffer a minute into each game. If this was the case with Horne coming off the bench, would you then insist that BG is better in their two deep despite depleating our starting five, because that is what UK does?falconboy wrote:One of the few interesting differences in the game was points from the bench for each team, UK had 19 from there bench and we had like 4 I think. What you should really do is consider a girl who plays 39 minutes a starter, even though I know she technically isn't a starter. If we were to substract out Pfeiffer's points and insert the real "starter" Chante Bouman (0pts) on the bench scoring, then magically BG to UK's bench scroing was 7-6 in favor of BG. The fact is BG's top four players that start have a considerably higher average points per game than UK's top starting four because of Pfeiffer being considered a "bench player." Does this mean BG is then better in the top but UK is better in the two deep? I don't know and to tell the truth don't really care. BG and UK seem to mirror each other in many ways and to deem UK's 2 deep is just plain misguided. The fact is that BG's top four of Mann, Honegger, Horne and Achter are likely better than UK's top starting four of Mahoney, Elliot, Ormerod, and Humprey, but again that's because Pfeiffer isn't a "starter".
By making your uninformed post, you propagate the misnomer that UK is stronger than BG in the 2 deep, without acknowledging that Pfeiffer really should be thought of as a starter or the fact that BG's top four players may be better than UK's, at least statistically speaking. It just feels like it is the most difficult thing in the world for you to make a compliment of BG team with out sliding a backhanded comment in there about our depth our our lack of size, both of which I feel are incorrect assumptions. Anyways, enough of my ranting, I just had to get that off of my chest because when it comes to UK basketball you are out of your league and off base.
