Buffalo is on the rise
Buffalo is on the rise
Check out the coaches Buffalo is bringing on...I think they'll be extremely competitive in the next few years if this coaching staff can get the recruits.

With that big running back that was a true freshman this year, and their QB who was a freshman this year.......they will definitely improve. Bring in some nice recruits as a supporting cast, along with 1 or 2 good wide receivers and they will be very competitive. Give them a year or two. 2007 could be a really good year for them.NYFalcon94 wrote:I don't think UB could be "extremely competitive" if the good Lord was on their coaching staff!

You should have put the last statement at the beginningrocketfootball wrote:With that big running back that was a true freshman this year, and their QB who was a freshman this year.......they will definitely improve. In all seriousness, Buffalo did give us a hearty challenge for a while last season. I just can't see them winning more than a couple of games though. That would still be an improvement, but I wouldn't exactly call it extremely competitive. More power to 'em if they can pull it off. I'd love to see the bottom-feeders at least become mediocre.

Yeah, and I think it had a lot to do with coaching. I remember the one year they had a really good running back. He led the team in rushing and the next year he was playing friggin' DB for them. So they were a little better defensively, but much worse offensively.CapitalFalcon wrote:I don't know...I have been hearing for the past couple years how Buff's supposedly going to be more competitive. And each year, they blow.
Anyway, Phillip Warren is like 270 pounds and can run fairly good. I don't know how many carries per game he can handle, but he is tough to stop. And Willy their QB showed some good flashes as a freshman this year. Add that with the committment they now have and some of the coaches they have brought in and I think they will improve and be a contender in about 2 years.

I think I remember a new coaching staff coming into BG and turning them into a strong program. I wouldn't rule out Buffalo getting stronger because of their past struggles.
Yeah, but BG had been a power before. Has Buffalo ever been not terrible? (I'm actually asking)

Buffalo was never a D-IAA power.
"Mr. Peabody, set the Way Back Machine to Buffalo comma football..."
They've been playing seven years at the I-A level: 10-69 (.127)
The seven seasons prior to that at the I-AA level: 29-57 (.337)
They were 8-3 in 1996, the only winning season since 1986 when the Bulls were 9-2.
The 80s were actually not a bad decade for the Bulls. In addition to their banner '86 campaign, they managed the nifty trick of starting the decade with three 5-5 seasons and had two winning seasons (including '86).
Also of note: Buffalo didn't have a football team (please, avoid the obvious joke here) from 1971-1976.
The program has a winning percentage of .425
For comparison purposes ....
Kent State = .389
Eastern Michigan = .467
BGSU = .599
Toledo = .551
Temple = .444

rf,
That Fullback Warren is a B E A S T!! I can't wait to see him again at the Doyt this year. 270 pounds and tough as nails.
Buffalo's D was pretty good last year. I won't say they'll challenge for the MAC title but ya can't look past them anymore.
