BGSU is a "Harmful" Loss

Post by NY-BG-FAN »

In a profile of teams that will be alive for at-large bids on espn.com, we don't exactly get a pat on the back....

Virginia Tech (10-4)
Helpful wins: vs. Stanford, "at Duke"
Harmful losses: Bowling Green
It's all about the ACC schedule for Virginia Tech. The Hokies must finish above .500 in conference play after what was a lackluster nonleague slate. When your "highlight" is getting unlucky at Duke, that's not enough

Whatever. I'll still take that win any day. :D

By the end of the season, it might not look so "bad" anyway. Who knows how this team will end up?

I agree. Isn't it a little early for ESPN to be giving out at-large bids? Although, they have posted a top 25 for the '06-'07 football season (see football forum).

for a bubble team like a virginia tech, a loss to bowling green is pretty harmful to their chances of getting in. they were highly favored in that game, and a mid-level acc team should beat a mid-level mac team every day of the week. doesnt bother me though, it was a great win for the falcons and showed that the mac can play with the acc.

We're talking about ESPN here, a station that made an argument for USC being the best team of all-time before the Rose Bowl was even played. Obviously, 2005 Texas should now be regarded as the best team of all time.

OK, I'm all about homerism, but let's face it, VT's loss to BG is harmful to its chances of making the NCAA tournament. To say otherwise would be like claiming BG's loss to Akron wasn't harmful to its chances of winning the MAC East in football.

Home losses are harmful for anybody at anytime if they are a bubble team. By the end of the year, with BG's improvement, the loss won't be quite as harmful as it look now.
