FYI, if you trust Mel Kiper's ratings, Omar is ranked 4th among Jr QBs behind Quinn, Young, and Drew Stanton. Assuming Young and Stanton declare, Omar is behind Leinart, Young, Cutler, and Stanton.
However, if neither Young or Stanton declare, Omar could be the 3rd QB taken, assuming he has decent workouts, etc...
Scouts, Inc. lists him at 6'3" and 5/8
ESPN Insider info on Jacobs
In the end result when the teams put their money where their mouth is, Frye wasn't even close to a first round pick. Cutler is looking to be in the top half of round one on EVERYONES board, and that says alot in how highly he is regarded as a prospect, as Frye was not. And what is Farve without a cannon arm? You take away his arm and ability to make throws other can't and you have a turnover prone QB with a competitive spirt.hammb wrote:I'll see if I can find some old draft writeups but Frye was compared to Favre a LOT last year. In fact there were a TON of mocks that had him going to GB in Rd. 1 because of the similarity. Frye is a lot like Favre but doesn't have the cannon arm. Do not under estimate Frye's mobility...he's displayed it numerous times throughout his rookie year. He actually ran a better 40 time than Harris did coming out of college as well.saves wrote:I can't really agree with this comment. Cutler has been compared to Brett Farve. Scrappy player with strong leadership skills that has a howitzer for an arm. Also he player on the worst team in a very strong conference, and you could say single handedly got the team a huge upset win, and close games against other superior opponents. He also used to run a option-type offense in his younger years, so his mobility and toughness are superb. He dosn't compare to Frye much at all in his skills set or situation.Dayons_Den wrote:
People are talking about Cutler in the same way they were talking about Charlie Frye last year. Sure Frye wasn't a top 10 pick, but it is a very similar situation.
I cannot speak to the comparison of Cutler to Frye, but I think a lot of it is good player on bad team. Frye was a great QB on some really bad Akron teams...I think the comparison is there for Cutler as well.
I don't disagree that their in somewhat similar paths to the NFL, nor am I going to say which one will have the better career, but as a PROSPECT Cutler should not be muttered in the same breath as Frye. One was taken as a project that may or may not be the future, and if he dosn't pan out not much was invested, whoever takes Cutler is banking on them being their franchise QB, and if he dosn't pan out that team will be set back far. See Ravens and Kyle Boller for a visualization of that.
I know Kyle Boller did set the Ravens back a bit, and I'm not disputing that, BUT he showed a ton of improvement at the end of this season, especially against Green Bay and Minnesota, and looks like he might pan out after all. Sure he had a bad game against Cleveland in week 17, but he showed that he is capable of playing very well. (I'm not at all a Ravens fan, just thought I would point that out.)saves wrote:
