What can I say.
If you're ridin' ahead of the herd, take a look back now and then to make sure it's still there.

First time poster, glad to finally be on the board. Former BGSU student. Really enjoyed last nights game. Probably the most complete game I've seen from the Falcons in the 6 years I've been following them. A couple of points and observations from both nights:
Friday Nights game
1) Much improved defense last night by the Falcons then the last time I saw them play OSU at the Schott. I can count on probably 3 fingers the number of odd man rushes OSU was able to generate this time out, compared what seemed like 20 the last time. Glad to see Pooch got that straightened out.
2) I've only seen two games this year, both against OSU, but Horrell seems to be the guy that needs to be in goal. Another outstanding job last night, except for the "non-catch" goal. I definetly feel more comfortable with him back there.
3) I thought the guys who took over for Mattsy last night did a good job of keeping that line agressive and attacking. I really like Foster's skating skills and ability create chances for not only himself but his teammates. I can see why he leads the nation in assists and is top 3 in scoring. I expect to see him in the NHL someday, especially with the new rules, smaller quicker skilled guys are needed, and he fits that mold.
4) I was very impressed with how the entire team played with intesity the entire game. I love that they are up on the bench the entire game, as opposed to OSU who just got up on the bench for the 3rd period. I was especially impressed with how they withstood the OSU "energy" at the beginning of the 3rd. OSU really came out fired up and with aggression trying to squash any momentum BG might have. After the initial five minutes of the 3rd, when nothing transpired for OSU, they really seemed to have that deer in the headlights look of, "Uh, these boys are here to play" Again, 3 years ago, we would have never withstood the storm. Now we are.
Overall, regardless of the record, these boys are the hardest playing, most skilled team I've seen in 6 years. Goaltending and defense seem to have lapses, but if last night was any indication, those things are on the up and up. Keep it up Pooch and BoyS
Saturday's Game: Observed from TV
Once again, a great TEAM effort. Horrell was spectacular in net, but the guys in front of him, especially on the OSU power plays were just as spectacular. 1)Once again, OSU tried to out muscle us, and out hit us, but we took all their checks, handed some out ourselves, didn't tire, and worked as hard at the end of the game as we did at the start. Pooch has the boys in tip top phsyical shape.
2)The offense was not quite as potent tonight as last night. The obvious difference in playing a second night without Mattsy. Last night was a more of an up and down type game, tonight, was just a grind, the team that wanted it more was going to win.
3)I really like the mix of young guys and older guys. Back 3 years ago, I really questioned the level of talent at BGSU, they didnt even have anyone who could bring the puck up, but now those guys, the seniors, have really improved under Pooch, and what they lack in talent, Pooch gets a great effort from them. We're still undersized, but not in the HEART department. I think Matsy and Foster are top of the conference in talent and in effort. Pooch's guys are young, but the future looks bright, the rest of this season and beyond. The first half really seemed like a learning experience and its paying off now.
4)I was a little disappointed in the crowd, from the TV, people better start recognizing the effort that the boys and coaches are putting out. One bright spot, Alex Foster has one sweet looking sister, they interviewed her on FSN, and as much as I was sick of the whole AJ Hawk/Larua Quinn saga, and cringed at it being rehashed with Foster's sister and some osu player, SHE was definetly more pleasing to the eye than Brady Quinn's sister!
Anyway, GREAT WEEKEND TO BE A FALCON! KEEP IT UP BOYS!

"I was a little disappointed in the crowd, from the TV"
The students can't get back into the dorms until noon tomorrow, so that took a hunk out of the crowd. Personally, I was pretty pleased with the attendance. But you are right, it better keep growing with the way this team is coming along!

ROLL ALONG!
I'm not quite sure what you're talking about concerning the crowd. This was the largest crowd so far this year w/o most of the students back (they're not allowed back on campus until tomorrow). Had the students been here it would have been a sell out. There was easily 4200 (maybe more) there tonight and the place only seats 5000.
Great game and great sweep this weekend! On to WMU!
Edit: Just checked the stats. We had 3680 there tonight w/o the students. Still not bad as far as I'm concerned. The crowd was loud and really into the game.

I swear I heard a "warm up the bus" chant over the OSU radio broadcast after the empty netter...BGFan wrote:The crowd was loud and really into the game.

I'm willing to call BS on that number. The only place you could see any empty seats was up in the corners at the North end. Even then, there wasn't very many empty. Down at the standing room at the south end, we were two or three deep all night. Great size crowd, but I'm willing to bet there was at least 4000, probably closer to 4200.BGFan wrote:

My observations:
First off, words can't really described how much I enjoyed watching the game tonight.
I haven't seen a hockey game this good since the early 90's - profession or college. Great defense, awesome goal tending and some fantastic offensive plays in the goons' zone. I'm suprised would couldn't convert at least one of those crossing shots in front of the crease.
Scott has this team playing lights out on defense. Those boys were flying all over the ice tonight. Scott's mentor (York) would be very pleased and very proud of Scott's team right now.
The crowd was awesome. Other than the unneeded vulgarity peppered into some of the cheers, I thought the crowd was very engaged.
I must apologize for the first goal. I didn't know the band automatically played the fight song twice through. The goal count didn't happen. On the empty netter, we played it once, but Neil Pert on the trap set decided to put on his own show. I attempted to get him to cool it, but he was being his own star.
Trying to get that band (half of which were high school students) to cheer was like pushing a rope. On the other side were a bunch of OSU fans (who knew they had them?) But, I did my part to piss off just about everyone in the band. Lucky for them, I lost my voice around the nine minute mark of the second period.
This was a great weekend. Saw some old friends. I got acquainted with new friends. Saw two great wins. And finally, I was able to get back "home" to BGSU.
Good night all. I'm exhausted.

The top 4 teams get a bye in the first round. 5 - 8 get home ice against 9 - 12 in the first round. The winners in the first round then play 1 - 4 in the quarter finals on the road. The top 4 after the quarterfinals go to the Joe.Lsquared wrote:great game for the falcons. 2 wins over the buckeyes without moto. now that says something about the character of this team. 5th place in the ccha right now. hopefully we get a home series in the tournament. what seeds get home series?
A top 4 finish is really what we want and is definately in reach!

The Sweeeep Yesss!!!!!!
My only question is , where was this earlier in the season. I knew we had plenty of talent but I guess we either weren't mentaly in the games before as we are now or the chemistry was not there cuz of a bunch of freshman playing alot and maybe it took (unfortuanalty) a very long time for them to gel. Well, it looks like there gellin' now!
