How many Wins next year since Omar's gone?
They will win 5 or less games. Not because Omar left but because Lane, pope, sharon, and sanders are all going to be gone. Because we have a tough schedule, because there wont be 5 players step up and produce like the 5 previously mentioned players have done over the years. Because the Defense is only going to be worse. Because OU, EMU, Buffalo are getting better, no longer easy wins.
I think next year is a bad year. I think BG,however, Picks it back up in the '07 season
Good day

Good day
When I look at next season I see 3 losses right from the get go. I don't see us beating either OSU or UW. I'll also pencil in UT as a loss, much as I penciled in that one to BG this year. I continue to give the edge to the home team in that series, this year's results notwithstanding.
Beyond that I think we CAN win all of our other games...and we could lose most of them as well. The first reaction is that we were a bad team last year and we're losing all our offensive skill players from that squad. That would lead one to believe that we're going to be worse this season. On the other hand we didn't get great production out of a lot of those guys last year, and maybe this team is ready for a change? Looking towards the end of last year there were a lot of young defensive players that started to step up and look good, it's conceivable our defense improves next year. Until they start to improve their fundamentals, however, I'll reserve judgement.
It's tough to predict next season at this time because we haven't seen enough of the guys who will be playing the most. It could be they were great players stuck behind great players. It could be that none of them should be on a Division 1 field. Hard to say when we haven't seen them play. I expect some of the guys to make some plays, but we'll see some mistakes of inexperience. My biggest questionmark is STILL the coaching staff. If they can get these kids to play fundamentally sound football we could win 8-9 games. If they continue to coach the way they have been we'll probably end up with 3-4 wins.
Until I see otherwise my gut thought is about 5-6 wins, but enough of them coming in MAC play that we could compete for a division crown. As much as I think we'll be down I cannot see where the MAC East is gonna be that stellar either. Of course this is pretty much all speculation. I'd like to at least see the spring game before I can make a really informed opinion. Perhaps the coaches will wake up, remember what worked in '01-03 and get back to that attitude & style.

Please, look at the non-league schedule and MAC teams and tell me how this team wins 5 or less. Even if BGSU wins only one non-conference game, they would have to go 4-4 or worse in conference. They are still better than "improving" OU, EMU, and Buffalo. Miami loses players all over the place. Everyone's new favorite Akron loses their best receiver and their best running back, another senior receiver, and some key players on defense. NIU loses their top two receivers and starters at d-line, lb, cb, and s. And I could go on.DrDesert wrote:Good point tekekini......too many people don't give any consideration to the opponents when predicting how BG might do next year. The other team does have a say in how well we perform. The improving MAC teams and our non-league schedule will be tough to overcome, but I hope we can.
I like the talent BGSU has coming back. I have faith that AT will be much improved now that this is "his team". Again, I think the defense will be better, not worse. Roll along...

I also think AT is going to be a really good QB, and that the defense will improve with a full year of coaching from Lovett.
Right now, since I know very little about a lot of the will-be starters, I can see anywhere from 5-9 wins. Revisit this after the spring game and we can narrow it down some more.
Roll Along!
I'm just saying I think 5 wins is a reasonable prediction 1 week from the end of the college bowl game season. We dont know exactly who a lot of our starters will be, we dont know anything about our defense. All we know is that we are breaking in 5 new starters at skill positions on offense, a weak but possibly improving/possibly worsening defense and a conference that is becomming more even.
whoever said that we wont lose to an :improving OU, EMU and buffalo" I wasnt at the OU game but from what I understand OU should have slaughtered us. We had a lot of mistakes and OU failed to capitalize. They prolly coiuld have easily beaten us.
Its too early and too many questions to predict 9 wins, MAC champs or anything silly like that. 5 wins is fair assessment at this point. Lets see the spring game, lets see the defense improve, and lets see AT lead the team before we get cocky. I dont think we are in a position to get cocky and talk down improving MAC teams wh gave us scares all season when we have lost a lot of talent from this team.
I want to see a game with the new players before anyone can really make any kind of judgements about our football team.

OU should have slaughtered us?
This is the link to the OU/BGSU box score. While the game was close at the half (due to OUR mistakes) we still won 38-14 and rolled up a 570-239 yd advantage in ttl offense.
If anyting, the final score should have been more lopsided in favor of the brown and orange

Tekekini is being reasonable, considering this is January. BG went 5-3 in the MAC this year, WITH the most prolific passer and receiver in school history AND Anthony Turner playing quarterback. We all hope for something better than 4-4 in the MAC and some upsets in the non-conference schedule, but I think Tekekini is being fair in the early assessment.

Refer to the above two posts to see how "reasonable" tekekini is being.
You're right. That's reasonable. Conservative, but reasonable for the reasons you outlined.tekekini wrote:I'm just saying I think 5 wins is a reasonable prediction 1 week from the end of the college bowl game season.
As Flipper pointed out, not so. Ohio came out flat, despite the fact that they recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff and never looked in sync. Their offense was painful to watch and we were just a play or two away from blowing the game wide open.tekekini wrote:I wasnt at the OU game but from what I understand OU should have slaughtered us.
