I will admit that Anagonye has a much cooler name. Good to hear that the coaches seem intent on putting him at DL. Thanks for the info Flip.
My only question....why DID we turn this kid away? It seems to me that our D-line was in need of depth as well as talent...and if this kid was good enough to get a schol. offer to start with, what changes that? Only "excuse" I can see is if the coaches feel their total (unannounced) verbals are solid enough that there's nothing left....what happens if one or more of these kids backs out at the last minute?

I kind of thought the same thing at first, but with the solid recruiting effort thus far, I'll give the staff the benefit of the doubt on this one.
Pretty much standard recruiting type stuff, really. Most coaches offer more scholarships than they can (or want) to give. They'll go in saying that they want to bring in say 4 DL players. They may offer scholarships to 8 of them, but only the first 4 to accept are taken...then the offers get pulled from the other kids.

I imagine that they've now got the allotment of DL that they wanted now filled.

I think we should be erroring on the side of ading size on the defensive line.

Getting DJ Young is awesome! I do not think we should be trying to implement a 3-4 at all with the talent and size we currently have a DT and NT but thats just my opinon. DJ could play DE this upcoming season no question with the size he has already. If that did happen we could or should move Briggs to OLB and bring up the size and speed and athletism up in our linebacking corps to a level that we've never had.

But with some serious weight room work and frequent visits to buffets during the summer he could grown into a very nice DT or NT for us as well.

I think this may have happened with our WR's also, and I believe they may have pulled the offer to Mark Krauss. This comes from a very good source.

We pulled an offer to Mark Krauss?? :? Really, I hope this means we are on some major studs if we pulled an offer for Krauss.

So who are some of the WRs we have verbals from? I have heard of a grand total of ZERO so far. :?

If it's true we've pulled offers from those guys, it makes me believe we have a lot more verbals that just haven't been picked up by recruiting services yet. We'll know soon enough.

From what I am hearing, we have 4-5 recruits left to get verbals from, so the list is about full.

I hope one of them is that "Big Bird" Ellis kid...he looks like a quality prospect.

Rivals added this blurb form Young. Looks like CMU and CIncy are still calling, but Young says.... ""I don't plan on visiting anyone else," he said. "But if something came up, maybe I would look at it.
"But I'm pretty set on Bowling Green. They have a good family atmosphere. I think I can get playing time early. And I can get a good education."

Sounds good....as long as some BCS power like Michigan doesn't come along and nab him like they stole that Criswell kid last year.

I think the issue with Krauss maybe baseball. It might be a waste of time to sign him to an LOI for football because he has a chance to be taken fairly high in the MLB draft this spring.

The list that has been confirmed on some level is:

RB Vincent Corner, Springfield North, OH
WR Tyrone Pronty, Maple Hts, OH
QB Tyler Sheehan, Cincinnati LaSalle, OH
OT Tyler Donahue, Naperville, IL
DE/DT Michael Culberson-Fehling, Libertyville, IL
DB Derek Brighton, Allen Park, MI
DE/DT DJ Young, Lansing, MI
LB Eugene Fells, Palatka, FL
LB Brandon Jackson, Memphis Briarcrest, TN
LB/DE Darius Smith, Euclid, OH
S PJ Mahone, Elyria, OH
RB/S Jahmal Brown, Cleveland Benedictine, OH
TE Nick Rieke, Crystal Lake, IL

That's 13, Big Bird would be 14 and we have Abram Gordon, Mario Tynes and Anthony Glaud visiting Friday.

And Donny Kirby and Herb Bynes the week after among others, I'm sure.

Adding 2 very nice kicking prospects to the list of Gordon, Tynes and Glaud looks like a well rounded recruiting weekend.

I would still love to add a true #1 WR, definitely a kicker/punter or both and another QB, which is already in the works.

Tynes and Gordon would provide much needed depth as well. Tynes is listed at 6'0 or 6'1 and Gordon is listed near 5'9 or 5'10 . . . The versatility of their size intrigues me as well. Both are very solid prospects.

I certainly hope my count is wrong, b/c if not we are looking at a very small class of around 20 signings. There maybe additional scholarships that were held back to bump this number up a bit, but these are the seniors that I found on the roster. If this is the case, we may have earlier identified all the current signings, afterall there are always a few that escape us.

1 Sharon
2 Jordan
4 Jacobs, ok not a senior but you all understand why he's listed
5 Piepkow
12 Sanders
13 Timchenko
20 Mayberry
22 Lett
23 Nicholson
25 Arnold
32 Lane
33 Pope
41 Burkhart
46 Fry
55 Culp
56 Johnson
58 Warren
77 Thaler
91 Cooley
