Re: Buhlah's Bugle
We put them on the seats throughout the whole arena, including the band section!! I asked Saxy if she would be in the pep band, as I want to get the band on board with this!! The pep band will be KEY to keeping the excitement and noise going during the game!!! I want to make sure we have a few AZZ board members playing Friday night (and Monday???) that LOVE HOCKEY!!!! Heck, I would be willing to hang out with the band to "advise" them on what they should be doing!! I am sure I could get a few others to help me too...any takers out there!!FliccGirl wrote:What sections are you handing them out in? (Sorry if that's been said and I missed it...) "BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Go for it Lsquared!!!!!Lsquared wrote:im gonna be sitting in the section directly across from the student section handing out newspapers in that section. hopefully getting a student section on both sides of the rink. that would be awesome and make the overall noise of the arena up.

Newspapers for Friday's game
I'll bring newspapers to hand out in Section C and D. I can't remember ever having them there - so it's about time.
BEAT THE BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!
Remember in the 80's how Western Michigan could never keep up with us skating - so they played the whole game just clutching and grabbing and slowing things down?

Wow. It is amazing the motivation that winning will bring!
If there were just a handful of people in each section of that arena that would be willing to take on a leadership role, wow. That place would be one of the greatest places on the face of the earth (not that it isn't already).
It really seems to me now that papers in every section is the first step towards motivating people to become more vocal, more involved, and to return each week (because they will see that it is fun!). I sat in the chairbacks with my parents this past Saturday and there are people throughout sections C and D that are already involved. There are too many people sitting on their hands though, many of them because they don't know how to get involved, I'm sure.
Also, I think to get rid of the "sucks" chants, telling people that these chants were ripped off from Michigoon as someone mentioned earlier is an excellent idea. Another key is getting this across to the band. I realize that Saturday's band was an alumni band (and they did a GREAT job!), but it was really hard to not say "jackass" after someone entered the penalty box. I vowed that I would not say that before the game, and I didn't - but it felt very strange when the drum rhythm was seemingly calling for it. I believe that just as hard as it is to not say profanities when the band plays their rhythm, it would be just as hard to to say them if the band wasn't egging people on. I should say here that I remember someone (I believe RUIT) saying that the drummer last Saturday was being a jerk, but I'm talking about the regular pep band here. If we can somehow get them on board this season, I think we might see things change pretty quickly for the better.
This all being said, I am so depressed that I can't be there to witness this season. I had such a phenomenal time at the UConn tourney, the Colgate game and the Aggies game and saw such great hockey in every game that it is going to be extremely, extremely sad to simply listen to the games on the radio for the rest of the way. I am counting down the days until Jan. 20th so that I can see a game on TV. I may even call bars in advance just to make sure I will be able to see. I'll be sure to guarantee them some "decent income."

The drummer wasn't being a jerk. He was a good kid. He was doing what he thought was 'proper' and what he thought he SHOULD do. It's also what he has always BEEN doing. I'll shoot off an email to Doctor Hayward explaining the traditions of the hockey games and how vulgarity should have no role in the cheers.Bleeding Orange wrote: I should say here that I remember someone (I believe RUIT) saying that the drummer last Saturday was being a jerk, but I'm talking about the regular pep band here. That should stomp any further exclamation points by the percussionists.

Perhaps I've missed something here, but have we shifted to the right so far that the word "jackass" is now classified as vulgar? I guess I can deal with it...seems to me there was once a time when it went like this...Rightupinthere wrote:I'll shoot off an email to Doctor Hayward explaining the traditions of the hockey games and how vulgarity should have no role in the cheers.

I want the "Bleacher Creatures " back in section A.
I have a Halloween mask that I will donate to anyone in section A that will wear it every game.
And as I first said many years ago
GO GREEN GO WHITE GO SUCK AN EGG
This weekend it will be BEAT THE PONIES
I've never heard this one either and probably wouldn't repeat it if I had.
As for the cheer....I guess you had to be there. It wasn't before my "time", but it was before I discovered the greatness that is Falcon hockey.

I heard "d!ckhead" during that cheer. Perhaps that was just where I was sitting, but there may be some easy morphing happening to the cheer.Freddie wrote:Perhaps I've missed something here, but have we shifted to the right so far that the word "jackass" is now classified as vulgar? Personally I'd rather hear the YOU,YOU,YOU,YOU (while pointing at the player) cheer all of the way to the box. When the whole crowd is doing it it is VERY imposing and it is unique to BG instead of a bastardization of another school's cheer.
I think the last time I heard that was probably the 95-96 season. I used to love that cheer. I had actually forgotten about it until it was mentioned somewhere the other day.BGFan wrote: Personally I'd rather hear the YOU,YOU,YOU,YOU (while pointing at the player) cheer all of the way to the box. Freddie proposed:
Install five simple banners (like old fashioned window shades) on the wall above the seats in one of the north corners. Each banner would have one letter, and when they're all exposed, they spell S-I-E-V-E
At the end of our 'goal chant' some lucky fan (perhaps chosen by a pregame lottery) gets the honor of exposing a letter. Can you imagine the crowd anticipation (and the opposong goalie's humiliation) building as that fifth letter gets turned?
Since the band will have played, then the fans had counted,
the S-I-E-V-E cards could be held up one at a time by the band people.
I am sure that someone could discuss this with the bandies
Freddie for a person with no hair, you come up with some darn good ideas!
