Ummmm...I think you're confusing your Smith's. Darius Smith is the kid who verballed here early in the season. He hasn't changed his mind to my knowledge. Derek Smith has verballed to Iowa....Germainfitch1 wrote:So the derek smith who we were told was going ehre even before the season is not and never was?
I don't think these boyus play much football...they'd probably prefer "soccer" anyway....

Rivals.com as well. http://rivals100.rivals.com/viewprospec ... _key=40567hammb wrote:That's how scout.com has them listed, anyway.IBleedMACGreen wrote:Are you guys 100% sure of this info? If so I will update the site accordingly tonight.Warthog wrote: Alcin is a WR, not a RB. Womack is a DB, not a RB.

I read ever team's recrutiing report and counted at least six times where they used the phrase "one of the best classes in the MAC." The key to keeping people coming back to your Web site is to compliment each school so you don't alienate their fan base. While I am happy with the direction this year's receruting has gone, I'd take their praise in context of them appealing to the masses.

Miami fans have been claiming the #1 class in the MAC and they do have some good recruits. I think BG will finish ahead of them on paper this year, and maybe UT also. Last I checked, Miami had something like 17 listed and were sitting at #63 by Scout. BG had (I think) 9 listed and were sitting at #65 Scout. I think that BG or UT will finish first in the MAC with the other one finishing second and Miami third. Jackson and Mahoney were good pickups and if Brown makes it (which it sounds like he will), he'll be up there with those two.

This topic has come up on the Ohio board and elsewhere. One fan justified this by saying that in the past 5-6 years the MAC's sagarin rating has improved by several points. This would make a lot of sense considering Nick says that the talent in the opast few years coming to the MAC is the best he's seen. Nick knows a lot of these players and has seen many of the play live several times over. While I understand the "make everyone happy" theory, I do not think that is the driving force behind his words.Rollo83 wrote:I read ever team's recrutiing report and counted at least six times where they used the phrase "one of the best classes in the MAC." Derrick Smith's uncle was former QB Tavares Bolden.hammb wrote:As Warthog said Derek Smith has committed to Iowa. He's also coming off a torn ACL so he only played 4 games as a senior. Looks like he was never really considering us...his comments are how he loves Iowa, and also Toledo...apparently his uncle went to UT.
I knew it wouldn't take long for this to be printed in the Sun Times:
Northern Illinois has recruited Chicago better than any school in the last 20 years. Coach Joe Novak will sign the No. 1 class in the Mid-American Conference. He does a superb job of evaluating talent, landing players such as Garrett Wolfe and Michael Turner whom other schools think are too small.
This year's class is headed by wide receivers Marcus Lewis of Warren and James Jefferies of Mount Carmel, lineman Panan Tense of Fenwick, defensive back John Tranchitella of Driscoll and defensive end Ed Jackson of Cahokia.

This is just what went to print. The Sun-Times Sports Editor cut the part about Novak walking across Lake Michigan and performing countless miracles as a faith healer in his spare time.dduncan wrote: Northern Illinois has recruited Chicago better than any school in the last 20 years. That and the part about how he was nice enough to cuddle afterwards...JoeFalcon wrote:This is just what went to print. The Sun-Times Sports Editor cut the part about Novak walking across Lake Michigan and performing countless miracles as a faith healer in his spare time.

If I'm not mistaken, scout.com has UT, BG, Miami, and NIU as the top 4 in the MAC. No surprise when you consider that we are traditionally the top 4 football programs in the last 4 or 5 years. Last I saw UT was first and then I think Miami, BG, and NIU. That was without listing DE Skylaar Constant with Toledo and I think we have 1 or 2 more surprises that will be announced soon. On paper, it is going to be hard pressed to put someone ahead of UT's class this year and just a month ago I was saying that NIU and Miami were the top two classes.BGSUFootballFan wrote:at 1st i was really excited about our recruiting class, and i still am for the most part... but did anyone notice Miami? they sure got a ton of players and you'd think some of those are gonna pan out
Of course we all know that "on paper" and recruiting service rankings don't necessarily mean anything.
