Are we strange for LOVING Falcon ladies b-ball?

I ask this because my brother thinks I am crazy for following these amazing ladies as closely as I do. I took him to the game against Akron last week and no matter how amazing or dominating BG played, he just sat there and said: "This is boring." He also kept saying to me "I'll bet you watch the WNBA, too," and rolling his eyes. I assured him that there were not enough blows to the testicles that could force me to watch an entire WNBA game (unless Ali Mann were playing - in that case, no blows to the testicles would be necessary), but I don't think he believed me.

The fact of the matter is that I simply LOVE women's college b-ball. In fact, I like it better than men's college b-ball. That sounds crazy, I know, but in my opinion the 35 second shot clock is the most ridiculous thing in all of sport. The 30 second shot clock is not that much better, but it does force a more up-and-down the court game that I find exciting. For all of the dunks and testosterone, I simply don't find swinging the ball around the arc for 30 seconds all that exciting.

I know a lot of people will argue that not liking women's b-ball is sexist, but I don't know if I agree with that (if the person has given the sport a chance). In my mind it is clearly a different game - in my humble opinion for the better. I guess the real question is, why do so many people not give the sport a chance - especially at a school like BGSU that has such a rich tradition in women's b-ball? Personally, I would love to see a discussion of this, especially from those like hammb (sorry - you were the first that came to mind ) that are on record as saying that they will not attend women's games.

I've got a pretty biased opinion of the womens game since I coach it, but I wouldn't go to the mens game if I were offered a position. Coaching women may be more difficult on many levels, but it is as close to pure basketball as you're going to get these days. You can spread the floor and size and skill level really do matter. Recruiting at the college level is so much more important, because their really is a difference in the skill level of a lot of these girls. I have seen some of the best kids in the state of Texas, and trust me, there really is a difference between the kids that Texas and Tech recruit, and the kids that teams like Sam Houston and Houston recruit, and their DI. But the thing that I love about the womens game is that, although a lot of these girls are getting more athletic, the back cut and back pick are more effective in the womens game. Boxing out is still an art that they have to master to rebound well. In the mens game, if you have size and can jump, you can still rebound. The mens game is played above the rim, while the womens game is still played the way that most of us were taught. I'm still adjusting to dealing with 18, 19, and 20 year old girls that I'm not chasing for myself, but for a person that loves the pure game of basketball, it's the best game to watch.

I think that fact that you're brother is a douche pretty much explains that.

I'm not a big fan of women's sports in general, and I do think that women's basketball overall is pretty boring to watch (especially the WNBA). But I love all college sports because the players play with so much passion and enthusiasm. My love for the Falcon women ballers started when I had a couple friends on the team and I've been hooked ever since. These ladies are the exception to the "Women's bball is boring" rule. They are exciting to watch and play great defense. I'm really going to cherish this season since it will most likely be the last season I live in BG for the rest of my life.

When I watch the women play, I see players out there. It doesn't matter to me cuz they play hard and play to win. Same with soccer and softball....when I watch a BG softball game and a pitcher like Liz Vrable is firing those pitches in?? Wow.

Houston Falcon makes the point I was going to make. I think it's more pure basketball than the men play. I don't find it boring at all....especially not with this team. They can pass, dribble and shoot as good as anyone.

Bottom line is they work just as hard and put in just as many hours as the men do and have earned the support, IMO. Just because they're women doesn't mean they can't play.

I'll say no we are not weird. Yes the ladies dont' and can't dunk , but if you think about it or have watched the falcon men lately there hasnt' been much dunking there either. So that arguement is out right there.

Bout the only thing in ladies basketball that befuddles me alot is how someone can at times miss a wide open bunny layups , but besides that occasional occurance our lady falcons are very exciting and very uptempo. Even our lack of usual explosive offense this year is still more exciting than watching our men dribble and shake and bake and then dribble some more at the top of the 3pt line all day.

I guess for guys like Bleeding's brother , there's isnt much you could ever do to get someone like that interested in women's basketball short of the ladies playing in skin tight spandex or bikini's assuming they were fairly attractive. And that probably wouldn't do it either. Bleeding's brother and people like him are maybe just not true basketball junkies and fans like I am. Its sad more people dont' come. We really need to get more and more students to the ladies games as well.

BTW the next home game for our 11-2 lady falcons is Wed. Jan. 18 at 7pm.
Also how's for you Metz and other student posters here , hows the advertising of the ladies games around campus?
