Marc Potvin...

Post by ffejfalcon »

Passed away this morning. No details at this point. This is really sad. He was the coach of the Adirondack Frostbite AHL team here in my home town. Just a great guy who will be missed....

He and Paluch played at BG together. Marc was here from 1986-1990. Tough kid on the ice back when college hockey was a little more tolerant with the rough stuff.

Here's a link to his hockey history for anyone who is interested.

May he rest in peace.

Another familiar NHL name I always forget as being a Falcon.

Sad news, indeed.

There were two other Potvins in the NHL (Denny and Felix) that you may be confusing him with (not sure if they're related). Marc was up and down a lot. It was a decent career, but not as successful as I'm sure he would have liked.

OMG....I was at BGSU for the same four years. My prayers go out to his family. Very sad, indeed.

He spent some time with the Whale. I know of which Potvin I speak. But you're right, he's likely the least familiar of the three Potvins.

Sounds like he was on a decent track as a head coach.

Potvin had the team he was currently coaching playing well and in position to win the division. BTW the team the Icehawks is owned by Barry Melrose and Steve Levy of ESPN...

This is so incredibly sad. I have very fond memories of Marc's playing time here and the boys from Kitchner (Potvin, Truck, etc.) will always remain some of my favorite all time Falcons.

If I remember correctly Marc's Dad spent a lot of time at the games sitting up in our section with Kevin Dahl's Dad. If I'm remembering the right guys, they were a blast!

My thoughts and prayers are with The Potvin family and with everyone who cared for Marc.

GO FALCONS!

I don't know much about Marc, but as I said in the chat room, the situation makes me just want to cry. No family should ever lose a parent that young - I've seen it too much.

God bless and keep the Potvins.

Thanks for posting all those links, Findlay Falcon. I have very fond memories of Marc's time in BG, as I know you do too! What a horrible tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and everyone who knew him. This has to be hard for Coach Paluch and all former Falcon players and coaches who knew him.

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."
