The cut on the face was likely Kolarik's doing, with that wild swing he took him down with. The concussion, I'd say was Johnson throwing him into the boards.
Hmm... 38 penalties, times 2 minutes per penalty... He's got an extra 30 minutes to account for here...
Interestingly enough, looking at stats for Marc Potvin the other day, his partial year with Hartford, he played in 52 games and recorded 246 PIM. That's gotta be a typo, right?
Don't forget--some penalties are 5 minutes or 10 minutes.

I'm just saying that the further the deviance of PIM divided by Penalties is from 2, the more of a goon someone is. That or as I think the case with Johnson may be, he's overly aggressive and dumb about it.

If that's the case (with the extra attacker thing), then yeah, that's cheap. The hit itself, aside from looking like a charge, seemed fairly decent. If there was an elbow at all, it was to the body. As I said before, not knowing the extra attacker part, Kolarik seemed to more of the dirty party.
And I've said before... that Lune fight was, while we can argue all day about it being a black mark on the game, one of the most memorable moments I've ever done on radio.
Just looking at the play alone, I too am missing the context. However I watched the replay about ten times, the closest thing Johnson did was leaving his feet and even that was borderline. I think that Kolarik was the one who ended up working Howells over.
But that's just my two cents from watching the replay, granted I don't have any context of how the game was being played or the situation.

More than likely, the blood is a result of Kolarik. The hit came with 37 seconds left in the game and scUM trailing by 2. These two teams meet next weekend for two games. Just might have to watch that one on TV. For more on the hit, check out the link to the thread on USCHO (Falcon Fanatic posted it).
Seems someone started a thread about this weekend's series. scUM is 4-7-0 in there last 11 games.

My big problem was, and I'll have to watch it again to make sure, was that he hit a player w/o the punk, into the boards, face first. Any number of penalties could have been called... Charging, Roughing, Checking from Behind, Boarding and of course Kolarik's Slashing too. I think it was probably viewed as a blatant intent to injure and that's why it was so harshly penalized.
I would hope the same thing happened to anyone who deals out a cheap one like that!
On a second look.. Howells did kind of set himself up for that by turning towards the boards, and he just played the puck. None the less it was still dirty.

I still think the only infraction that could have been called is a borderline charge. The hit gets Howells turned, it was lead with the shoulder, Kolarik was the one who made contact with the head not Johnson.
