This game made you embarassed to be a fan of this team? Are you serious?

I was disappointed, too - but I will never, ever be embarassed to be a Falcon. There is never a reason to be embarassed about being a Falcon. It is a cliche, of course, but you win some, you lose some. Period. I actually was expecting a win tonight, but that obviously didn't happen. We simply came out and played flat, but the fact of the matter is that this is hockey - it is extremely difficult to tell whether or not we just didn't try, or if the other team just played lights out.

With Michigan, I am inclined to think that they simply came to play better. Yes, Berenson supplements his team's game with the most disgusting goon play you might ever see, but he is a man who has been around the block and knows how to coach his kids. It is easy to get on our boys for giving up so many turnovers in our defensive zone, but you must also bear in mind that Berenson knows how to put his players in position to make things happen. That is how he has been so successful (and yes, the goon play helps).

The fact of the matter is that Yost is one of the hardest places in the country to play, and that our boys simply didn't show up as well as they should have. Should that make anyone embarassed to be a fan of this team, this school? Absotoodilootly not! Tomorrow is another day, another game - who knows what might happen? This is what makes college hockey so exciting.

I'm actually embarassed of your embarassment, though I don't think you really meant it.

The thing about Yost is, once you get down more than two goals you might as well pack it in. That barn is one of the toughest to play in period, once they get up on you they clamp down very hard.

The guys have it in them to be something special, they really are on the cusp of returning to glory. Consistency and maturity (play on the ice) will come with the experience these kids get.

This is a team in transition, they are going from a team that was carried defensively by their goaltending. We're building towards a team that can play on both ends of the ice, equally well. I think Paluch has the right horses, it's just the time to shine..... yet.

It's always tough to play in Yost - especially for a young team. The defense has to get back playing to the level they which they are capable.

It's time to get back to playing Pooch Puck.

The person most frustrated with this loss must be Scott. It's been a very tough couple of weeks for him.

No worries, man. When I first started responding to your post I was taken aback by it, but then I realized that you couldn't possibly have meant it. Heck, I myself even said earlier that last night's performance was totally unacceptable. Didn't mean to totally come down on you - this is why I shouldn't post 5 minutes before I go to bed...

Hopefully we can come back tonight and take it to the 'Goons, though!

Last night's game reminded me of something I saw here in Findlay about 15 years ago. The local rink hosted a 'fund raiser' for youth hockey. They brought in Gordie Howe's 'Detroit Red Wing Alumni Team' to play an 'all star' team from the city men's rec league. Howe was the main attraction, he looked to be in great shape (for a guy in his mid sixties). He could still shoot, pass and handle the puck with ease...and he skated circles around a bunch of local yocals from the 'Tuesday Night Beer League'...despite the fact that they were all 30-40 years his junior.

We looked like that bunch of yocals. We played like those guys who travel with the Harlem Globetrotters, extecting and expected to lose.

It appeared to me as if we were in awe of Yost and that big block M on the front of those stinkin' sweaters. The Michigan team is loaded with talent, but I was NOT impressed with their work as a TEAM...several outstanding individual efforts (like Gordie's Red Wing Alumni Team)...I shudder to think what the score MIGHT have been if that gang of prima donnas played as a unit. Two weeks ago we got rid of the Zero State monkey that's been on our backs for five years...apparently we are not yet ready to exorcise the 'Ghost of Yost'.

Now it's time to move on. Relax...do some deep breathing exercises, and release some of that tension from our hands and legs. Like the guy who's nervous about a public speaking engagement, we ought to imagine the UM players in their underwear. Inside those ugly striped helmets are the heads of human beings...not gods. They ARE beatable (I don't know if that's a word, but you know what I mean).

Gut the Gulo Gulo!
