In the Hula Bowl....has a couple runs and a catch for about 25 yards before the end of the 1st half.

It seemed like he played a lot more of the H-back rather than RB. But when he was in at RB he ran hard. Also had an incomplete pass on a HB pass.

I commented on UT board that Pope looked pretty good, while Josh Betts, from what I saw, looked pretty bad. Were there other MAC players in the Hula? Bruce G and Jennings hooked up a couple times in the East-West game and got a lot of voice time from the common taters.

Bruce looked really good from what I saw of the E-W Game! I hate the SOB, but I was really pulling for him. That was a weird feeling, let me tell you!

I saw the replay of the Las Vegas All American Bowl today. Sanders TD was sweet. Didn't see Sharon play even though he was listed on the lineup.

Pope DID look very good in the Hula Bowl. I hope he gets a shot in the NFL.

Anyone find stats on the game? Can't find any mention of Pope on-line.

I saw them on the AP wire last night. If I remember right, he had a couple carries for 15 or so yards, and two catches for 21. I accidentally saw his catch right before the half on the 2AM replay last night. Did a nice job of getting himself open when Betts had to scramble.

I beg to differ somewhat. His deep balls that were caught were not strong throws but more akin to hail mary's that the receivers made great catches on. But he still has the intangibles that will get him a look.

But one moron on macbbs actually posted that he thought Bruce could play RB in the NFL...now that is funny!

That moron would probably be me although I don't think I ever said that. What I did say was he was a pretty versatile guy and I could see him being drafted with the idea of him playing another position, specifically safety. I think I added RB and WR sort of tongue in cheek after he had receiving, rushing and passing yards in the East-West game. That doesn't mean I'm not a moron, just a taken out of context moron. :)

Yep, you were the moron  And I don't think I took you out of context at all. Here is your exact quote from MACBBS:
h2oville rocket wrote:Why didn't they keep Bruce in at the end? The one play he's in he takes it 14 for a crucial first down. Also fun to listen to the announcers talk about "athletic" QBs and not mention Gradkowski as he runs away from defenders twice for big third down games. I guess we all know what they mean by "athletic" don't we? I think Bruce could play safety or even running back in the NFL.

Well, yeah, if you're gonna pull out quotes... I'm not at all sure he WILL play QB in the NFL. I still think he could play safety. Probably got caught up in enthusiasm after the game on the RB thing, although 6'1" 220 pound guys with some speed might be able to play RB in the NFL. I always thought Harris might have a better shot at rb than QB. But then I'm a moron. :)
