BG 5, Michigan 2
There were a lot of really awesome things happening last night. For the most part everything was very positive and the environment was friendly enough considering that the goons were playing in Ohio. Out of everything that happened though, I will say my absolute favorite moment of the night is when Horrell finally got up and the crowd started the "Let's Go Horrell" chant. That one practically turned my blood orange with pride.
I can live with the "YOU SUCK" line, especially when it's directed at them stinkin' skunks becauce...well...they DO suck. The word 'suck' no longer carries the same exclusively blatent sexual connotation that it once did...and when used in this context translates to "you stink" or "you're terrible". Please, however, don't allow this chant to continue on to the next line..."we're gonna kick the s*** out of you"
A comment here would be way too easy...Falcon Fanatic wrote:You're giving me WAAAAY TOOOOO much credit here! Just some little tidbits I overheard after the game...I was 'eavesdropping' outside the UM locker room as Red was answering questions from the press. I'll have to para-phrase, as I don't remember it all word-for-word
Q: What made the difference between last night and tonight?
A: They played great, and we did not.
Q: Would you care to be any more specific?
A: They outworked us, beat us to every puck and covered their defensive zone well...I thought we did a good job containing their top line, but they had some other guys step it up.
Q: The atmosphere in the building was electric, how much impact would you say that had on the outcome?
A: The first goal is key when you're on the road...we had alot of fans here too, we just didn't give them much reason to cheer.
Q: Were you surprised by the quality of their goalie's play?
A: No, not at all...if he couldn't play, he wouldn't be here.

The song is a good one for the third period. Only when we're winning though. Usually, the fans have a habit of getting quiet afterwhile when we haven't scored any goals or had any big hits for awhile. It's a good way of getting the crowd back into the game.Freddie wrote:I can live with the "YOU SUCK" line, especially when it's directed at them stinkin' skunks becauce...well...they DO suck. Alright, this is the third reference I've heard to Red's urination habits. Anyone care to share?Freddie wrote:Red's actually a pretty good guy...when he's not busy urinating on campus buildings

Some of you have been saying that we were out hitting Michigan last night. We did get a few in, but from what I saw; we were the ones getting hit. The good thing is that we were able to take these hits and out hustle them to the puck. Nothing could show this better than how Whitmore played. He was putting on a clinic of how to apply pressure on defense. The only guy I noticed that was able to more than hold his own in the hit department was Russ Sinkewich. Which brings me to another point, who the heck is Russ Sinkewich? I can't recall seeing him all season. Did he dress in place of Sitko (what happened to him)? All I know is that he is a big kid who can handle his own and did a great job last night (except when he got juked out of his skates that one time, but I will look past that for now).
Russ is a Freshman who has played in several games this year. He's been sharing time with several players, including Sitko. He'll be a good one on the ice by the time he's done here. He has a lot of upside to his play.turtle wrote:Some of you have been saying that we were out hitting Michigan last night. We did get a few in, but from what I saw; we were the ones getting hit. Sitko has had some problems taking bad penalties, although he's been much better the last few games. I can only speculate that he did something Friday night that displeased the coaches so he sat last night. It may also have been cautionary given the alure that Johnson being on the ice may have had for Sitko to prove a few things. Who knows.
It felt so good to beat Michigan almost as bad as they beat us in Ann Arbor Friday night. I really enjoyed hearing some of the old cheers brought back. Ed and I got tickets behind out team bench thinking that there wouldn't be many Michigan fans around us but boy were we wrong. There were Michigan fans sitting on both sides of us. The guy sitting next to me kept trying to push me out of my seat and everytime our student section started to cheer he would start cheering for Michigan. The guy sitting next to Ed kept telling the people sitting in front of us to sit down, I guess he couldnt' handle losing to a team that he viewed as being "so beneath them."
