That just SCREAMS a "your brother's better (clap,clap,clapclapclap) chant in a couple of years.... unless of course he has the same, uh, "vices" as big brother, he might not stick around that long.Puckhead wrote:But look on the bright side of that list of recruits;

Following next year's recruits...
"I don't believe I can name a coach, anywhere, anytime, anyhow, who did it better than Doyt Perry."

Gads, what a waste of talent Peter Ratchuck was. A defenseman who didn't know how to stay at home or pass the puck. You could almost guarantee that when he picked of the puck in the defensive zone he'd skate it all the way down the ice, slap it into the other goalie's pads and then give up an odd man rush in the other direction.TG1996 wrote:That just SCREAMS a "your brother's better (clap,clap,clapclapclap) chant in a couple of years.... unless of course he has the same, uh, "vices" as big brother, he might not stick around that long.Puckhead wrote:But look on the bright side of that list of recruits;

He was good but totally un-coachable due to his father's influence. We can only hope that MSU has the same problem with his brother.
Given the ROI article on him I'd say Kantola is under rated. He was also recruited by several WCHA schools AND several other CCHA schools which tells me that we're now winning battles that we weren't even engaging in a few years ago. IMO, you're putting too much emphasis on our facilities holding us back (and you sound like a couple of assistant coaches we had a few years ago). If that were the case UM would suck year in and year out because that place is a hole....it has atmosphere but that comes from the crowds. Walk into it empty and you lose it. Miami would also be suffering because their current arena is a horrible place to watch a game, yet they're in first place right now (the promise of a new arena DIDN'T get their current seniors to commit either and they've been near the top of the league for several years now.). I'll take the atmosphere we had Saturday night over anything in this league....we just need it game in and game out. That means winning game in and game out to convince the locals AND the students that every game is worth seeing. You get that and our place will be second to none on game night. That's not to say we couldn't use some improvements, but that's not affecting recruiting as much as you think it does. Our W/L record is the main factor.Puckhead wrote:Kai Kantola goods like a great pick up.
Brian Moore looks like a great addition.
Please remember that Kai ( # 80 ) was our back up position after Trevor Lewis( # 46 on the http://www.insidecollegehockey.com/7Arc ... s_0417.htm recruit list )
went to U of Mich.
Scott and Ron are getting good recruits.
Many of the best players are still going to the programs which appear to have solid Administration support.
Sorry to be realistic, we need major renovations to the arena so that we can
get the top recruits that Ron and Scott want as the 1st picks.
But look on the bright side of that list of recruits;

It takes time to re-build a program that sunk as low as ours did. All of the indicators, in my mind, show that Pooch has us heading in the right direction. Consistancy is the only thing that's left to fix. Play the same way we did Saturday night against every team and we'll have arrived. Once that happens, recruiting won't be an issue.
I was thinking the exact same thing Saturday night. Sure, our place could use a 'facelift', but if I'd been a recruit here on a visit Saturday night I'd have been begging to sign my letter on intent right on the freakin' spot. We're headed in the right direction, and picking up speed. Roll along!BGFan wrote: IMO, you're putting too much emphasis on our facilities holding us back (and you sound like a couple of assistant coaches we had a few years ago)...
