Please don't come on these boards and act like this means anything to us. We see how they "earn" their grades. Have a good day.

I seem to remember hearing from some friends that some players down there pay other students to write papers for them. Just rumors I've heard though.

Oh please! Just because they went to OSU they obviously cannot be good in the classroom as well? Bullshit man, just bullshit. It's one thing to give Tekikini crap in the Football forum, but this is other schools and it's perfectly acceptable, hell encouraged, to post OSU stuff here.

And quite frankly, I've heard just as many stories and rumors of BG players getting papers done for them and whatnot as I have OSU players. Including our most high profile player of the past 10 yeras as well. It happens everywhere on some level.

We all should really inspect our homes for their fragility before tossing stones around.

regardless of whether the players are actually earning their grades....

I just looked up a few NCAA academic numbers from last year. OSU outperformed BG last year in football academics. They were in the 10-20 percentile and we were in the 40-50 percentile. I didn't look beyond last year. Be careful where we lob our stones from.

All I know is that it is a fact that osu football players get special treatment in the classroom. Do all of them need it? No. But it is there for the taking. When the profs come forward and tell the truth they're the ones that get death threats...

I would not doubt that some BG athletes are getting help from other students. In fact I was in a SMD class with Ron Lewis and Lewis would sit beside a basketball player's girlfriend. On test days he would copy off of her. But for the papers I know he asked the teachers for help when he didn't understand something.

Another current guard for the basketball team would never show up to class and when he did he would always sleep. I know he would get his hw from other people and he had other help. This was two years ago and Dakich almost kicked him off the team. He has since cleaned up his act from what I have heard.

Yes these things do happen everywhere I don't think it's on the same level. Just my opinion.

A couple things:
First of all, as much distaste as I have for OSU and people coming to BG boards to talk about them, this is the appropriate forum for them.
Second, being from Columbus and knowing kids who attend OSU, I have heard plenty of horror stories about football players NEVER showing up to classes and still passing, getting free passes on tests and papers, and just getting an all around unfair advantage.
That being said, I'm sure to some degree it happens everywhere, but from what I've seen here, I'm pretty happy with BG teachers' treatment of the issue.
There was a football player in my HIST206 class last semester, and the kid never showed. When he did, he was always wearing about 5 icepacks and not paying attention. When he didn't show up for 3 weeks straight leading up to our debate (in which he was supposed to be a member of my group), not only did the teacher decide to dock his grade, she decided that even if he did show for the debate, she wasn't going to let him participate because he had shown such a lack of effort in the class.
Like I said, as much as I dislike OSU, I have always admitted that it is a good school for those that actually want to get an education (and have a LOT of self-restraint/willpower) and I am more than sure that there are plenty of kids, even on the football team, who are honest and hardworking.

I was never a football player in college, I asked teachers for help and got it, got A's I suppose I am a cheater now too because I am an OSU fan  Teachers are willing to help anyone all you have to do is ask. Hell, Albrecht (accountig teacher) will give you the answers if you as him...any of you ever had him you prolly know what I am talking about.

Not really sure what your point is here. Never said that if you ask a teacher for help you are a cheater. I was saying that on papers and other writing assignments that he would ask the teacher for help on how to do the assignment correctly. Which is the right thing to do. Looking off of someone else's paper and cheating is not the right thing.

I again agree. You should read the post and comprehend it before you start your rants.

while I ama t it, I also skipped some classes a lot maybe 60% of the time and still got A maybe hugh B's. It is possible. The only advantage is that maybe some teachers are not reporting the attendance if they miss class, to the coaches but you can not really 100% prove the teachers are "giving" them grades just becuase some do not go to class.

I'm sure the ones who arent going to class are not the ones doing well..they are the ones holdiong that team GPA down. the article said like 53 players had a GPA above 3.0 but the team average was a 2.81

as J4H mentioned, it was higher than BG's.

Dont shoot the messenger just because he was right :P

Are you freaking kidding me? Did you just call me a 'dufus' after I defended you for posting this and then said that the crap people are accusing OSU of happens everywhere?
I never said anything bad about asking teachers for help, and for that matter, I said:
I am more than sure that there are plenty of kids [at OSU], even on the football team, who are honest and hardworking.
So explain to me again how I am a 'dufus' and how my post in any way deserved a sarcastic, BS response like the one you gave it.
You really need to get your act together. The one freaking time I defend you and that school and you crap on it.
damn.
