Questions for Paul Krebs
On February 4, I'm going to have the opportunity to sit down with BGSU athletic director, Paul Krebs and ask him some questions. I'd like to use this thread to collect questions from the Ay-Ziggy-Zoomba.com membership to present to Mr. Krebs.
Please post your questions, concerns and praises here.
A word of caution: If this thread breaks down like so many others do, I'll just delete it and go with my own questions.
Thanks! Myself and Mr. Krebs look forward to getting some of your questions answered!

In a great many universities nationwide, the marching band is a part of the athletic department - budgetarily speaking, of course.
I'm not sure as to why there is a separation currently. Which do you believe is the ideal situation and if it's different than BGSU has there been any discussion regarding changing the current arrangement?

Will the band have permanent seating in the seats attached to the SEBO Center? Every year they end up in a different place and it seems the best place to hear them is in the endzone.

You are correct (Damn, first having to admit TG was correct, now Saxy - what is the world coming to?!?!?!)SaxyIrishTenor wrote:I think thats a yes... Don't quote me.
At the ground breaking ceremony, it was mentioned the only seating in the north end zone attached to the SAC would be for the marching band.

Not sure if this question needs to be directed to the athletic director, *shrugs* but oh well: Would it be feasible for the jumbotron in the stadium to display the words to the fight song and alma mater when the marching band plays them during pregame and postgame?

Just thought of another one.
When he gives his annual homecoming party, and brings the FMB leadership out to play for his guests for no compensation except dinner, is he going to make sure there is actually enough food next year?

i emailed someone in the athletic dept(can't remember who) during the football season about they and they said it was very good idea never thought of it. how could you never think of that. they said they would look into it, but i agree it would be a good question to ask!FliccGirl wrote:Not sure if this question needs to be directed to the athletic director, *shrugs* but oh well: Would it be feasible for the jumbotron in the stadium to display the words to the fight song and alma mater when the marching band plays them during pregame and postgame?

Here's a good question.
When is the athletic department going to hire a mindful person to control the music during pregame warmups. As soon as the team leaves, shut it down. The band is about to perform.
Can you tell I"m still miffed I missed the RIGHTUPINTHERE this past year. It was because the surfer dude on that 'music' was too busy jamming and not paying attention....the dork.

I know I am not the only person that would like an answer to this question:
Why does the athletic band have to split time with that crappy canned music at all of the hockey games?? Also, why does the band director get a script telling when to play and when to not play for every hockey game if the script is NOT going to be followed.
As a member of Athletic band, I am extremely annoyed by the canned music because to me, it basically says our band isn't good enough so we're gonna play these crappy, mostly cheesy tunes over the PA instead. I know that the Athletic director probably doesn't see it that way, but I would be curious as to why the canned music continues to be used while a perfectly capable band is doing nothing.

As a fan and a member of the band, I believe this is because the bands musical selections aren't always the best. Too many times I've see a timeout or something called when our team has the momentum and the crowd is up and yelling, and then you hear the band bust into You Dropped a Bomb on Me or something similar.jlozer8 wrote:As a member of Athletic band, I am extremely annoyed by the canned music because to me, it basically says our band isn't good enough so we're gonna play these crappy, mostly cheesy tunes over the PA instead. If you sit in the student section for hockey games, when they play Cotton Eyed Joe or other songs, the students clap and get into it. Don't get me wrong, as a member of A-band, I agree we should play more at games, but some of the music we play is outdated. If we do use outdated songs, they have to be popular outdated songs or the momentum of the crowd will disappear. It sucks, but it's the truth.

Why has there been an increase in the number of promotions at both basketball and hockey games? I understand that this means more money for the school, which probably goes straight to the athletic fund (which the band is not funded from), but is it enough to make up for the costs? Yes some of them are amusing, but this cuts down on the band time. There have been several occassions when the athletic bands have been ready to play, but we had to wait for a contest to get finished. Maybe we could ask Mr. Krebs if we could possibly play during the contests therefore we could finish a whole song without rushing like crazy.
GO FALCONS!!
