Vancouver v. Colorado

Post by Peregrinner »

Anyone else happen to be watching this game?
As soon as the puck was dropped to start the 3rd, a fight started which included Kevin Bieksa, a former BG player.
Don't know too much about the guy (actually, nothing), but it was nice to see him on tv, not to mention that that makes two BG players in the game (at least), Blake and Bieksa.
3-2 Vancouver at the moment, by the way.

As pathetic as it may be, words cannot express how much I miss my XBox and NHL 2K5 right now.
Three games from the Stanley Cup and I had to leave the damn thing at home for my brother.
What a bite...

You don't know much about which guy, KB or the guy he was fighting?

KB's a good guy. He's a defenseman with a good shot from the point and quarterbacked the power-play his senior year (junior year too, if I remember correctly). He has an offensive side to his game and though he was known to pinch on occasion, I would not go so far as to call him an offensive-defenseman. KB hit very hard. He also had a nasty elbow when he felt like using it, but his hits were generally clean.

I can't figure mine out... playing simultaneous seasons with Carolina and CBJ, beating everything that came my way on the default level, so I upped it one level and Carolina gets drilled daily, while CBJ wins one 12-3. Once they both started losing regularly (seriously, how can a guy make a perfect pass from the point to the doorstep while being tossed into the glass?), I went back to the default level (2nd of 4).

....and promptly lost to the Blues.

KB, but thanks for the info. I was really excited to hear them talk about BG during the game, and knowing a little more about him is just that much better.
I assume by "hit very hard", you meant more along the lines of checking, but he landed a pretty decent left right out of the gate in the fight, and when they went to break up the fight all you could hear him saying was "no, no, no. not yet!"
Sounds like an aggressive player.

They dropped some BG love, too? Awesome! :D

Looks like he's getting a great chance to prove himself, averaging 21 shifts/16+ minutes a night.

Had a similar situation with mine. Played all season with Detroit on default and did very well (beat CBJ something like 15-1), and then switched it up one level and nearly lost the first game I played.
The worst part, however, is that apparently theres an XBox glitch where if you have more than 3 injured players when starting a game in the playoffs, it freezes. Unfortunately for me, I have 7 (I like to check WAY too much).
I'll either have to cut 4 guys or find some sort of fix/way around the problem.

I think it was something along the lines of just metioning he played at BG and something like maybe that's where he learned to fight or something. Can't quite remember, but it was cool nonetheless.

ok, brief update:
http://hockeyfights.com/videos/
You can find the video of the fight here, and hear what they said about Bieksa.
For those too lazy or uninterested to click:
"Bieksa is a college player out of Bowling Green, and I don't know where he learned in college hockey to have the edge that he plays with"
I don't know how long they keep them on the site, but I've got it saved if anyone is interested.

The 'edge'?

Believe me, he's always had that. First off, it's why he hits so hard (yes, I meant checking before) and second, he took more than one double roughing in his career (the collegiate version of fighting when the antics aren't worthy of a one-game suspension).

I think most people are just surprised that he's made it so far so fast, esp. when he wasn't considered an NHL-calibre player by most pundits.

Yeah, I must admit, apathy won out. I saw how long the line was, so I gave up and said to myself, "Hey, at least he's a Whalers fan. So he's not all bad."
