Talk about the Buckeyes the Wolverines the Hilltoppers the Ducks the Beavers the Chanticleers... or anyone else who isn't BG or an opponent in this forum.

Toledo scrambling to keep recruits?

Post by factman »

I noticed they just received a committment from Clayton Coomer, a 1* QB from Springboro, OH, that ran a 4.8+ at the combine and measured 6' tall, and has NO other offers.
I know they have lost a couple verbals in the past week or so, and this "fill-in" certainly doesn't seem up to a top level MAC recruit. Of course they are touting him as being 6'2" and running a 4.6, so at least in their fans eyes he will be ALL MAC!!

That "guest" was me.

I was going to let you hang yourself even more with your facts, factman, but I'll let you in on a little secret here. First, he is not a "fill-in" for anything. Secondly, you say NO "other" offers like he has received one from Toledo or something. Thirdly, no UT fan has said that he'd be ALL MAC. Actually, UT fans have pretty much brushed by the information provided on him. And as far as losing a couple verbals goes, they lost one head-to-head with another school. That was Witten to UCONN. They pulled their scholarship offer to Hatchett because of academics (see your other thread about that). Remember, just because a player decides to come to a specific program, that doesn't mean they'll be doing so on scholarship.

Don't worry, BG has a few really good recruits (Mahone, Brown, and Jackson), but you are still looking up at us like usual.

I think that comparing the athletic quality of walk-ons from another school to those on scholarship at peer schools is pretty cheap and all information should be provided first.

Kind of like that UT cheerleader?

Yeah, you got a good team but how many are going to transfer out/not make it gradewise? UT has a history of not keeping guys 4 years from start to finish. What I've noticed is UT has one or two guys who are stars with lackluster supporting staff. BG may not have the greatest players in the world, but we got a damn good team.

www.scout.com says that his schools of interest were UT, Miami and OSU and Toledo is his ONLY offer. Just citing sources.

Our team has lost back to back games to UT and watched them play for and win more MAC championships than us recently. I don't think too many UT fans are real envious of our team right now.

Factman, for some reason, you remind me a lot of Baghdad Bob. I don't know why I'm arguing this with you, but I guess I hate misinformation enough to argue you. I know that you have seen the information given by HuronDave and Mark Myers (both of which have media credentials) that have said they heard it was academic related. Dave even said that the mlive reporter knew that. Besides, his buddy being a Wolverine was a factor in him choosing EMU, as well as was UT pulling the scholarship and probably because Miami's class was full. Here are a couple of links from people with MAC media credentials.

UT has had a few decommits over the past couple of years and I've never heard an excuse be made by Mark Myers. Even when Lindsey Witten decommitted this year, there was no excuses. He simply liked UCONN better. So, why would Mark start now?

If providing links about what a player says holds the truth about reality, then I guess that the football players run the town of BG huh? Well, that's what this player says, so it must be true. If I were a betting man, I'd say that he is wrong though and I won't throw this link around to prove that the players do run the city.

In terms of your other information and sources, just wait for two more days. Like the first bit, I am sure that you will be proven wrong. FWIW, he was provided an offer...an offer to walk on.

To answer your question about Scott Hamilton, no I'm not related. I just thought the avatar would show that I'm a friendly guest and thought you may be more inclined to welcome me. What do you think of this, factman?

Yeah, I'm real happy with the success of the football team since I've been a fan. To be honest, I threw a jab with the "looking up" thing, but I have been a lot more impressed with BG's recruiting this year than I thought I would be. As much as I joke, the staff does seem to be doing well in this aspect of the game.

Drew, I've not heard the story about the UT cheerleader. You'll have to enlighten me.

And to factman, oh master of misinformation, I have a link for you that verifies what I was saying.

Touchdown Rockets,

Does it really surprise you that factman rushed to post something negative about Toledo without actually having the facts? It doesn't surprise me.

As already stated here, Coomer is a preffered walk-on and did not receive a scholarship from Toledo. Toledo lost Lindsey Witton to UCONN and replaced him with Derrick Summers from Summerfield, MI.....the 40th ranked player in the state of Michigan. Summers has similar speed to Witton and is about 235 instead of 190. Witton is going to be a project at linebacker or DE for UCONN. Sure, we lost him and that sucks, but I am happy with what we got in his place.

Hatchett's scholarship was pulled for academic reasons at Toledo. Even a couple of EMU fans have verified that.
