Hey BleedingOrange your phenomenal coach's quote from after last night's game

"I was pleased with everything the guys did," said head coach Scott Paluch. "We just allowed Lake Superior to make the one big play to win the game."

How could you be pleased with everything the guys did in a loss?

Why the heck would you call me out, especially when you obviously don't know sh!t about hockey?

I'm getting really, really sick of all of the people that come onto this forum and call out this coach and this team when they have no idea what they are talking about. I'll put this in bold letters just so some of the dolts might actually take the time to read it: Hockey is a bitch. It can be a whore of a game - you can play the best game of the season and still lose on a couple of unlucky bounces, or one misguided pass. Thats just the way things happen in hockey, especially at the collegiate level. This isn't a sport like football or basketball where simply grinding it out and going at full speed can win you a game. It is a game of finesse - and it is much more of a team sport. If the units on the team aren't playing well together, the team isn't going to perform well.

You know, I'm still a relatively young hockey fan, but Jesus tap-dancing Christ, at least I've put some effort into learning about the sport. I don't want to get into a pissing match, but don't you dare call me out when you have no idea what you are talking about. People like this are a detrement to an otherwise awesome hockey forum.

And is the reason why 72 decided to take a break from the forums. You can get on his ass for posting the same post in every major forum but what he said is the truth.

I too thought about taking a break from this board because a lot of what I read is garbage. There are a few people that I found entertaining when they post and I actually learn things from what they write. Mostly though have to tread through the garbage and bitching about players and coaches when a lot of the people bitching and moaning know nothing about the sport they are bitching about and most likely never played beyond youth leagues.

TAKE A DEEP BREATH PEOPLE!!

Post by Falcon Fanatic »

Everyone needs to take a deep breath now. This stuff needs to stop NOW!! I have never locked a thread, but I am getting close on this one..... I hate it when things get out of control on the BB and FB boards and always felt that things were a little different in this forum....maybe I was wrong.....

LET'S GET BACK TO TALKING HOCKEY!! :D

I think we need a B!G crowd to welcome back Wilson and Hills!!!! :D And why is that game at 5:05????? :?

It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

That's one thing I always loved about this forum, while other forums tended to burst into pissing contests and stupid uninformed arguments, people in here were usually well informed and mostly civil.
I hope we can all get over this little argument and get things back to normal.
Not sure why the game's at 5:05, but that's a good thing, I might have about 10 family members here for the game, so this way we'll have some time to hang out and celebrate the victory.

Just a wild guess on the 5:05 start. The hoops team plays OU at 2:00, so I think they were going for the double header option for fans. I am doing it.

I plan on attending both games Saturday and I'm even bringing my brother and sister up for the weekend to see the games. Them not being students, a double header/one ticket for two games typ deal would be amazing for us! Let's hope that there is some truth to that idea. As far as starting the game at five instead of seven, I have to say I'm a little disappointed as the particular group of friends I usually attend the games with has a very specific pregame ritual that needs a little bit of time to pull off!

Yes, I believe you are right. I looked up the BB schedule after I posted that, and saw their game at 2. Makes sense, but hope they advertise it well or people will arrive and expect the game to be at 7!

Looking forward to seeing Wayne, Brian and their families again!!! But still hope we send them home with a big loss!!

Could also have something to do with RIT playing a 3PM game at Mercyhurst on Sunday. Mercyhurst is located in Erie, PA. Not too far of a drive, but still a rough road trip.

This was being on the edge is all about. Were just about over the threshold and then bang, we some loose the magic elements that we know the team has developed.
i view this weekend as a disapointment personally becasue I expected us to win. Yet i know its a speed bump and these kids will learn from it, they are real good, and smart. We have a great team here and they are turning the corner, where losses will become fewer and farther between.

falconboy wrote:Man, can we just tie somebody once in a while, I'll take that even. Is Lake Superior that good? I mean we sweep OSU , figure out a way to beat #6 Michigan albeit at home but lose WMU , Ferris St. and get swept by Lake Superior. I'll guess I'm about to be told that we ran into a hot goalie again since we could even score more than 1 goal in the first game. Just when it looks like we've turned the corner we go back several steps. This up and down is just too much. :?
Not having seen the games this weekend (or this season for that matter) I just wanted to put a historical perspective on this post.

Falconboy: you seem very hung up on Ohio St. and Michigan vs. Lake Superior State. I also know that you're a football/basketball fan. My guess is that before you went to BG, you've never heard of LSSU. Obviously, you know who OSU and Mich. are.

In a historical sense, Michigan usually has one of the best hockey programs in the country (except in the 1980s). LSSU usually has very good to great hockey programs (except late 1990s to early 2000s). OSU typically has bad to horrendous hockey programs (except 1998 season, last season).

Michigan has more national championships than any other program in the country (nine). Next would be North Dakota and Denver, tied with seven (fwiw-- both are D-II schools with D-I hockey). LSSU has three national championships to its credit. Ohio State has zero. Not only that, but I can probably count the number of times that OSU has even made it to the NCAA tournament on one hand. I haven't looked it up, but I'm 95% certain that LSSU has made the NCAAs more than Ohio State has (bgbill might be able to help on this one).

There are 59 D-I hockey programs in the nation. Less than half can claim even one national championship in their past. Bowling Green is one of those that can. LSSU has done it multiple times. Northern Michigan has won one. Heck, even Michigan Tech got a couple a long time ago (check out their record over in the WCHA this year). Since the CCHA has been in existence, its teams have won seven national championships: BGSU's was the first. There was also one by NMU, three by LSSU and two by Michigan. Nothing by Ohio State.

Anyway... the entire point to the post is don't be all impressed by the name Ohio State, because in hockey, it means nothing at all. Nothing. Lake Superior State has garnered much more respect in hockey circles than Ohio State. LSSU has won more and done it in roughly the same amount of time. They've also sent more (and better quality) people to the NHL.

Useless trivia: LSSU has won 3 national titles in hockey. That's more than Michigan State (1), Ohio State (0) and Notre Dame (0) combined (big football schools, obviously). It's also more than some of the traditional hockey powerhouses of the east, such as Boston College (2), Cornell (2) and Maine (2).

Personal opinion: there is no shame in losing to Lake Superior State. There is plenty of shame in losing to teams like Ohio State and Notre Dame. Not because they have good football programs, but because their hockey teams blow. I respect LSSU. I respect NMU. I respect Miami. Heck, I even respect Alaska-Fairbanks. I have no respect at all for OSU or Notre Dame.

Edit: this is not in any way a slam on you, Falconboy. Just tossing my opinion out there and shedding a little historical perspective on each of the schools you mentioned.

Very well stated, MACMAN! You summarized my feelings exactly!! I am also sure that the frustrations that we are feeling are miniscule compared to what the coaches and players must be feeling! I have hung in there through thick and thin with this team for a very long time, and despite the current frustrations, I, like you, know good things are coming in the future!!!
